Topic: Inequality towards Hispanic/ Latino Immigrants
Notes:
- Hispanic immigrants seem to have the lowest wages out of everybody else, but to be more specific Hispanic immigrant women seem to get the least.
- Based on a 2016 article over the last 20 years, the Hispanic population has increased in the United States, and now that the year is 2020 that increase has not gone down.
- Hispanic segregation from white and black people, Hispanics tend to live in neighborhoods that are mostly populated with Hispanics with numbers of white and black people living in these neighborhoods being low.
- Hispanic immigrants face multifaceted racialization.
- Most of the time Hispanics are stereotyped, mainly being streotyped as low life criminals looking to make easy money which is not true but that’s how they are viewed.
- More than half the time immigrants are working for less then the minimum wage.
- First gen kids with immigrant parents tend do better at school rather then native born kids or second gen kids.
- Process of trying to become a U.S citizen is a very long one and most of the time it is very difficult and expensive which is why not a lot of hispanic or latino immigrants become citizens.
- Mexican- American war had the biggest impact on Hispanic immigrants, the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo promised immigrants a better life if they decided to stay in the states that America took from Mexico.
- The treaty still affects the lifes of many immigrants still living in these states.
From my research what I learned is that although the United States is filled with the Hispanic and Latino culture, the people that come from these countries are not being treated the same. They are considered a minority and are always stereotyped, they have become a target in the eyes of many. All the hard work they do goes unnoticed simply because they came into this country illegally which is a whole debate on itself since this country does not belong to no one but the Native Americans. I also learned that Hispanics rather stick together, they go to schools and live in neighborhoods where the majority is Hispanics, it makes them feel a bit more comfortable. Lastly I learned that hispanic/ latino immigrants face discrimination and rasicm no matter where they settle in the United States, they will always be judged and looked at differently.
Question 1: To what extent do hispanic/ latino immigrants impact the society we live in?
Question 2: Althouth most hispanic/ latinos mostly migrate to the United States, how are they treated in other parts of the world?
Question 3: If the process of becoming a citizen wasn’t so difficult would hispanics/latinos still be discrimenated as much?
Question 4: How are the children from immigrant parents different from the children of native born parents?
I’d like to see you focus your topic down more. So Latinx immigrants and ?
Then we can come up with questions.
So even your first question, you might ask–what is the impact of Latino immigrants on ? (fill in the blank). Maybe on the US economy?
How are the children of latino parents affected by their parents’ immigrant status?
