Micro-Activity #11: Developing Research Questions

The topic I have chosen is the relationship between plastic use and climate change.

Notes
Plastic is closely related to climate change. If the global average temperature rises by more than 2 degrees Celsius, climate change is expected to be disastrous. The use of plastic raises the global temperature. Are there alternatives?

What I’ve learned
The use of plastic not only threatens marine ecosystem pollution and life but also accelerates climate change because it emits greenhouse gases. The recycling rate is only 12%, and the vast amount of the rest is buried or incinerated. That will reduce oxygen and increase hydrogen sulfide levels in 40 years.

Questions

  • What type of plastic is the most contaminated?
  • Is there any national policy that the government can do?
  • Substitutes that do not cause climate change?
  • How does plastic landfill and incineration affect the climate?

I would definitely go with what policies can local and national government take to reduce the effects of plastic on the environment? What works? And what doesn’t?
This question seems the richest for exploration.

Okay. Thank you, professor. I will focus on that question.
