Micro-Activity #11: Developing Research Question

Summary

The topic that I am interested in studying is climate change. From my research, I learned that climate change is a natural phenomenon that has happened even before humans were on earth. The climate change that we have now however, is not natural. People need to work together and intervene in order to save the planet. I also learned the intricacies of how climate change works.

Questions

  1. How can climate change be slowed down?
  2. Is it possible to reverse climate change?
  3. If climate change was to get worse, how would that affect society?
  4. What can we do now to slow it down?

Climate Change

  • Climate change is caused by greenhouse gases and carbon emissions.
  • It is caused when air pollutants build up in the atmosphere and does not allow the heat from the earth to escape into space.
  • These pollutants can stay in the atmosphere for several years to centuries.
  • Due to climate change, Antarctica is melting.
  • If Antarctica was the melt, sea levels would rise by about 70 meters, causing all major cities to be flooded.
  • Greenland and Antarctica are losing ice 6 times faster than in the 1990s.

I would choose from one of these–notice I’ve rewritten the first one a bit for clarity and more investigation.
How can climate change be slowed down? What works? What doesn’t?
What steps can be taken to reverse climate change?
If climate change was to get worse, how would that affect society?
