Micro-Activity #9

The Declaration of Independence is one of most important documents in the history of the United States. The structure of the Declaration of Independence goes as follows; the Preamble, the Statement of Human Rights, Charges against Human Rights, Charges Against the King and Parliament, and the Statement of Separation and Signatures. In my opinion the Declaration was created to put a stop to the offenses being done by Great Britain. The American people were sick of having their rights violated. The declaration touched on the fact that all men are created equal and should be treated as such. The Declaration Gives many reasons why they should no longer be under British control. The Preamble urged colonies to break their political bonds with England and project themselves as an independent from British rule. The Charges against Human Rights explains the history of the violations that caused uproar among the people. Finally, the Statement of Separation and Signatures announced that the Colonies would be separate from Britain and wanted to be viewed as its own independent group of states.

After reading the Declaration of independence I view the document as being persuasive. I view it this way because It offers different reasons for their separation from Britain. It touches on things such as the violation of rights by the king and parliament. It also includes details to convince the other colonies to break away from British rule as well.

“In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury.” I can relate this quote from the declaration of independence to the current protests for BLM, women’s rights and Just change in our country. These protests are met with police brutality such as tear gas and rubber bullets. We as a country need to listen instead of trying to contain us.

Yes! Nice connection between BLM and the idea that multiple attempts to bring awareness to, and end, racism have been tried and ignored.
