Geeta Kothari

After reading the text ”If You Are What You Eat, Then What am I?” I believe it is for people who are concerned about their own identity. It is for immigrants or mixed-race children who had to move to other countries. For example, throughout the reading the author Geeta Kothari is a young girl from Indian who moves to the US and struggles to find her identity. She tells how moving to a different country can stay with you through your adulthood. As a young girl moving to a new country and starting life over with no friends can be very traumatizing. I believe that Kothari Discourse Community is her family. She explains the struggles to trying to fit in with her American friends because of the difference in food culture. Even though she feels like she’s not a real Indian like her parents she still continues to follow their beliefs. They gather at the place called home  and sometimes at her cousin’s house to eat. Her parents are constantly reminding her and her sister they are Indians dealing with foods. I believe that she is apart of different discourse communities but family is the most important.

This should have gone in a comment in the Discussion question which is Discussions under student work. You don’t need to add it this time, just for next time.
