Mary Wollstonecraft is writing the letter to M. Talleyrand-Perigord former Bishop of Autumn to defend the French Revolution and why it happened because of the lack of rights for women. She wants to argue to the creators of the French Constitution to re-think and give women more independence and rights equal to men. She identifies that women do not have the same freedom as men and are forced into specific roles without knowledge. Which causes the people of France to have a lack of morality and virtue. Women can not cooperate, if they do not know why they have to be virtuous. If they were given the independence and education as males then duties will fall in order. Which means if women are kept to be undermined and thought to be less than men, they will no longer have the urge to fit the roles set for them. Leading to less sincere people without manners and morals that could lead to rebillion. Wollstonecraft believes that to progress morality in humanity as a whole, women need to be given the freedom they deserve because humanity can not progress without it. If children are to be brought up then their mothers need to be lover of mankind, morality, and virtue. Wollstonecraft discourse community is the female population of France. She is fighting for the rights of females in the French Community. The Recipient of the letter is outside of the Discourse Community because Burke is being argued for the independence of females.
