Bensonhurst, also called Brooklyn’s “Little Italy”, is a neighborhood located in Brooklyn. It is a mixed ethnicity family neighborhood where the most dominants are Italians. Bensonhurst is a middle-class neighborhood, but the rents are high. It is a good neighborhood to consider because there are a lot of tain and bus stations in a short difference of length. The houses are brick structured, with fences in front and vegetable garden in the rear. Most of the buildings are two-family houses. The neighborhood has a ton of great Italian restaurants and bakeries. The people are well dressed according to the occasions. According to “11204 Demographics”, the median age of people varies fro 35 to 39,mostly white females. Nowadays there are several cultures that have been moving in as well. Bensonhurst is a pretty quiet neighborhood during the day, but it is not safe for a woman to alk alone in the dark.
The major problem of my neighborhood is sanitation. in the summer, the streets are almost never clean. People litter everywhere and the garbage cans stay overfilled for a long time. Tis is a result of a massive increase of the population during the last few years. Another problem that people are concerned about, is te presence of numerous gas-stations and dry cleaning facilities. These hazards may exist as a result of an increase of population as well. The community health nurse should adress the presence of the pollution, in order to prevent the spread of infection. Racism is another problem that i read via Internet. According to the journalist J. Marino, “If a black kid came here, he would probably leave right away, because the guys would abuse him.” This is another problem that needs to be adressed by the community nurse, in order tolie in a safe, healthy neighborhood.
