We invite you to tell a story about how you are preparing to be a City Tech student. I feel like when it comes to the academic part of college Iām ready, I havenāt had a lot of struggles so far with that part. Iām a little worried about the social side of college, I kinda feel like I might not make many friends because I head home right after and donāt give myself time to socialize. Iām still working on that part, I feel that I might break out of that but not sure.
Yea, were in the same boat, i leave right after class and don’t really social with many students except just the students in my classes, I also wanted to check out if city tech has sport teams or anything related to sports but I couldn’t find anything.
Same here I leave right after class and haven’t made any friends yet except just students in my class
I tried finding about sports too but they don’t have anything pertaining to that. I was told they mainly don’t got it as they don’t have a home to where they can even practice any sports. They also building a a gym in the academic building and they said soccer and basketball and other stuff should be introduced but only time tells.
i agree and I also do the same and feel like it’s not easy to make new friends because everyone just wants to just go home after class ends and chill at home
This is just the beginning, you will still have friends in the college. Approach first to students and ask something, get other students interested in their studies, tell them about you.
You will have friends in college.
I am planning on being more engaged at school in the activities that’s going on. Academically, I am doing just fine not struggling with anything. I also do often go to the gym here at the school to keep me occupied during my free times. Pertaining to the social aspect of college, I don’t know how that will go as I have no friends here at city tech. Probably further into my school life that might change but I tend not to worry about having friends or not in school.
Yes, I agree with you completely finding a balance between social life and school life is great for everyone.
Yea i agree i be going to the gym too but then its home right after, but i know thats kind of bad.
I be doing that too. Right after the gym I just head straight home.
You should definitely try to find clubs that match your interests. That would help you become more social and create relationships with other City Tech students.
i prepared by coming to events and learning different things about city tech and its Resorces and in my high school I talked to teachers and advisers on how I can be ready for collage, and they helped me apply and get ready for collage and none of my friends came to city tech so I’m going to need to make new friends and meet new people
As a City Tech student I haven’t done a-lot of preparation but i did learn how to understand the rooms and buildings before i get lost first day. One more thing that i thought was kind of needed was to plan out my schedule before school even started where i knew what times i could take breaks in the library or go to the gym in the other building in between classes. Made traveling across the school way easier and it didn’t feel awkward because i had done research beforehand.
I know the first semester wonāt be easy, but I feel like Iām ready to take on the challenge. Iām excited to start this new chapter, meet new people, and slowly find my place at City Tech. Itās a big step, but Iām learning that with a little preparation and the right mindset, itās totally possible.
I stay up to date with my assignments, and try to join different activities the college offers to try out different things. I joined these workshops to have all the information I need so I won’t have to worry in my future semesters.
Being a freshman at City Tech, I feel academically prepared with my classes. I adjusted with my classes as they do cause me stress due to the deadlines, but I am managing it. I am learning many things City Tech has to offer little by little. I applied and joined many financial support because tuition isn’t easy. I am still adjusting to being a college student but I feel this school year will be great.
HI Yoselin! I’m glad that you are managing through college. I also struggled and have struggled establishing a schedule and ways to keep up. Hopefully you do find a way to make things easier for yourself.
As an incoming freshmen I really am still getting used to the way I need to be more independent and on your own side. It was definitely a struggle with being on top with most of the things that are open to me but by time passed I was able to learn more things and get used to how the system works. Iām still in the process of continuing joining more new social groups and clubs.

As I am in my first semester of college I am trying to prepare myself to have a easy transition to the new environment. I try to take advantage of the time I am at campus by walking around new areas and taking new stair cases every day to familiarize myself with the school. I have made a couple of friends these past few weeks and we like to walk around the buildings and around the area to familiarize ourselves.
I think thatās a great idea, Iāve also been exploring new areas on campus to sit and study/relax. Itās so great that youāve made friends through your classes.
I prepared for the transition to college by searching online. I have been worried whether I can keep up with the courses in college because my teacher told me that high school and college are completely different levels. I am worried that I can’t keep up with the courses.
I am preparing to be a City Tech student by working on my time management skills to effectively space out my time to include both study sessions, time to complete homework, and time to partake in hobbies and other self-care habits. Effective time management will build routines that will help me with my class performance. Also, I am going to join clubs and organizations, as well as build relationships with my classmates to make connections and friendships.
I agree, I think time management is very important and itās something I also want to work on. Making time for friends and non academic things are really crucial to having balance.
I am preparing to be a city tech student by taking advantage of the resources that city tech and CUNY offer me. I am also learning how to navigate CunyFirst, OpenLab, Brightspace, and other platforms. As I utilize these sites and tools, I can be more informed of the events happening in our community. I am also trying to connect with more of my classmates, but itās honestly harder to talk to people in my longer lectures. So far, Iāve made a couple friends in my shorter lectures, which makes comping to school more enjoyable and lot less awkward.
I was worried at the beginning of the academic semester. I was especially worried not to miss anything. Before the academic semester, I did not know and missed two educational workshops, one of which cannot be possible to pass the next time, and for this I must take the consequences in the future.
As regards friends, I finde always someone to talk to during breaks.
When I was preparing for the semester, I thought that I would struggle to adjust to my classes and that the workload would be overwhelming. I spent time wondering how I could prepare myself for my career and if I had chosen the right path. I told myself a few things like I should keep on top of my work and I should learn about opportunities that are offered. Itās a new environment and I didnāt know how exactly I would speak to anyone. I realized that my first semester/year doesnāt have to be perfect and I can work on being more independent and involved in the years to come.
