Industry Event – Comic Con 2014

Friday 10 October 2014

Every Year Comic Con is held at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. Over the years Comic Con has changed into a very popular event. Artists of every sort come to showcase their projects and hopefully get noticed. Established artists set up booths to sell their artwork. Comic book companies advertise what they have in store for their fans. Every year I try and go to see new and up coming artists. I also try and find animators in the industry and get their advice on the future of animation.

One artist in the animation industry that I meet was Bob Camp. He is a cartoonist and best known for his work on Ren and Stimpy. He currently drawing storyboards for a film at Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me films). He was very open to talking about the his work and the animation industry. He didn’t have a business card but he has a blog that everyone can check out http://bobcampcartoonist.blogspot.com/

Rick Pickens is the other animator that I talked to. Rick has been in the multimedia business since 1987. He is a production artist and animator. Rick was very happy to talk to me about my senior project, a 3 minute animated short. He is promoting his site http://www.toontooga.com/ and online video tutorials on how to be better production and how to get noticed. He was easy to talk to and was enthusiastic about my animated short.

I collected a lot of business cards at Comic Con. Most of them are postcard size with art on one side and information on the back. One company caught my attention with their business card. There business card was a sticker. The color they chose was not too bright but enough to catch my eye. http://www.tinyfishprinting.com/ They are a t-shirt printing company. They were making custom t-shirt prints right at the booth.
