With Fill No Fill
Using the fill for me was a bit difficult at first. However, once I got the hang of it I was able to see how subtle and soft the shadows would get.

Your photos with fill certainly have softer shadows. For even better results, diffuse the main light more so that the shadows are softer to begin with.
