Starting out as a college student I’m ready and confident for the responsibility’s I’m going to face throughout this journey, I’m going to face many obstacles most importantly time management which is one of the hardest since time is so limited. My goal throughout this semester is to become a better writer and reader, I mostly like reading horror or even mysterious novels the reason for this is because many books are predictable and I hate that feeling. I love unexpected events to occur shocking the reader making them more interested in the book. I struggle with mostly grammatical errors that’s why I am looking forward to maybe see you in office hours or even be in a study group. The places i like to read in is quite but I like to study with music maybe in an educational environment since it motivates me to do better. Another thing is I’m always open to audio recordings of books too since I can listen to a book while doing other work, it really speeds up the process of getting my work done.

One word that describes how I am feeling about this course is excitement. The worries, concerns I have is not being able to understand the readings and not being able to pick up the material. Some of the concerns I have about being a college student is the workload becoming a lot to handle and I start to fall behind. One thing I would like for you to know about me as a writer is that when I write essays or paragraphs I tend to use the same words over and over again. One thing I would like for you to know about me as a reader is that when it comes to reading sometimes I don’t understand what I am reading. Something I like about reading is that it gives me the opportunity to relax and reading in general just comes me down. I typically like to read books. When it comes to reading the only thing that is hard for me is reading things that are informational only because I have a short attention span. Something I like about writing is that writing is a way that my creative side comes out. I like to write songs or stories. It depends on how I am feeling. When it comes to writing, the only thing that is hard for me is when I am given a topic to write about.I prefer to read and write in English. I like to read in my room on my bed, sometimes laying down. I Like to read in a quiet room by myself while listening to music. The genre I like to read is mysteries. An author I have enjoyed reading is J. K. Rowling. The first book I remember reading and enjoying is harry porter. As a writer I am good at writing stories and writing songs or poems.

I am feeling nervous about this class. Im worried that I might do horribly in this class. And I’m not a strong reader and writer I struggle here and there. What ever catches my attention I will focus on it because when I’m interested I get the work done faster and I can explain myself clear. I like to read manga any chance I get especially soul eater its a good show and manga. When I read a book that I do not find interest I just wander off even though I need to read it but that’s what I struggle with. I like writing poems even personal ones because it’s fun to write about. Writing essays is hard for me because I always repeat when I have nothing to say and I just go off topic.I prefer reading and writing in English. I like reading manga when there is music in the background playing like lo-fi music. Honestly any genre but it has to catch my interest. The first book I ever enjoyed was Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan. I honestly don’t know what I am good as a reader or a writer, I’m not a big fan of writing or reading unless its really interesting

Going into this course I am feeling relatively mixed as my main concerns/worries for this class are basically just about the readings as even though I do like reading, the feeling of being forced to read something and or reading something I’m not interested in makes me unhappy.

The main type of literature I like is books and the things I like about reading is experiencing stories and getting immersed within a story, the main thing that can be kind of hard for me when it comes to reading is just finding an environment to read in, as finding a quiet space anywhere can be difficult, and the main type of reading that is hard for me is poems.

The main thing I like about writing is the ability to express myself and or my thoughts, but the main thing that can be hard in writing is finding ideas and ways to apply them, especially in things like essays. I would consider poems to be the hardest type of writing as it’s what im the least used to.

I prefer to read and write in English, and in terms of environment i prefer something like being in my bed/house while in a quiet environment as otherwise it can be hard to focus. In terms of genre I prefer to read fantasy and or science fiction, currently an author I am reading a book by is Joe Abercrombie. In terms of writing I prefer essays, meanwhile poems and stories can be hard for me as it can be hard to be creative. I believe the main thing im good at as a reader/writer is applying myself and applying feedback.

So far I don’t have a specific way that I’m feeling about this course, it’s too early for me to tell. My biggest worry is probably if I’ll be able to keep track of my assignments for my different classes and their due dates. As a reader, I enjoy reading online rather than printed books. This is because I find it easier to scroll through words and I don’t lose my place as easily than if I were flipping through pages. As for the reading material, I like to read informational articles and comics the most. I can read in pretty much any location and stay focused. For writing, I don’t write that often. I have a harder time translating my thoughts to words and an even harder time figuring out what to write first. When I do write, it’s usually short and straight to the point. (This means I usually end up not reaching the word limit for assignments) My reading skills can always be improved, but my writing skills are more dire in comparison.

  7. Zeyin Wu

I feel nervous about this class. Because English is my second language, I concern about my vocabulary and grammar mistakes. As a reader, my lack of vocabulary might makes me unable to understand the content of the article very well, but I will try my best to do it.I prefer to read novels and history books from the internet. Because I can understand these things as stories. But I don’t like to read articles that are too specialized, such as research reports, because they contain a lot of professional terms, which make it difficult for me to understand these articles.I would like to write in nonfiction and essays, because these types of writing require external sources as references to support the essay, I just need to understand how they relate. The other types of writing require more imagination, for example, stories require a wild imagination and a powerful brain. I prefer to read articles in Chinese, but I am challenging myself to read only in English. I like to read novels in bed before I sleep or read on the subway when I go to school, and also I like to listen the music while reading. I like to read fantasy stories. I like books by a lot of authors as long as what they write matches my interests. The first novel I enjoyed was a fairy tale written by a Chinese writer. The writer’s name is “Zheng Yuan Jie” . He is known as the “king of fairy tales” in China. I like to write essay and dont like to write the songs and poems, because they are very hard and hard to undersantd. I think I am good at as a reader.

I feel excited about this course I look forward to improve my reading and writing skill, I know that I am starting this course with not much of skills in reading and writing and that’s part of me feeling excited about this course because I believe it is a chance for me to improve my level of reading and writing by practicing and practicing and practicing. My worries starting this course is to feel lost or get confused what I am being asked to do because that feeling makes me uncomfortable. I am someone who asks questions I hope I get help to get things clear and not end up left behind. about reading I believe reading improves my ideas and allow me to think more productively, I also believe reading has connection with improving my speaking skills by pronouncing the words more properly. I prefer reading comics because I like to have a little hint of what the events told by the context looks like. I don’t enjoy writing as much as reading. I feel struggle most with research paper. I prefer reading in a quite place than in a place that contains noise. My favorite book genre is science fiction I find it more interesting and enjoyable to read.

Excited. What I’m worried about is that going to school in a new environment is very scary. Stay away from your former friends. In a new environment, you need to make friends again. At first, you will feel lonely and helpless and then take time to adapt to this environment. finding a quiet environment to read is the most difficult thing for me as a reader. I prefer books because I think books are easier for me to remember and absorb the knowledge in books, and the knowledge in books is more rigorous and rarely make mistakes. Writing can improve my ability to think independently. What I like to write most is the story. It is very happy for me to write down and share my practical experience in my life with everyone. I prefer reading at home or in a very quiet library. The quiet environment allows me to concentrate on understanding and absorbing the knowledge in the book. My favorite book is a novel I read on the Internet five years ago, which is full of horror and thriller. As a reader and writer, when I encounter my favorite books, I will collect them and read them again after a while.

One word I would use to describe how I am feeling about this course is Nervous. Becoming a college student for me is exciting as it is overwhelming. Finding what works best for me is gonna be the hard part, but it is essential that I do it now rather than wait until I am further into my studies. I am most worried about time management, that has always been something I struggled with. As I was preparing myself to be a college student I knew this was something I had to work on so i’ve trying out new strategies to help me prioritize my time, and some are working which is great. When I read I prefer to listen to the audio, I find that I get more out of my reading that way. As well as stopping every few pages and summarizing what i’ve read so far. One thing I like about reading is that one book can be interpreted in many different ways, what you took from that book wouldn’t be the same as what someone else took from the book. I find it hard to understand what i’m reading sometimes. I personally like to read books. When it comes to writing I like that each writer can have their own style of writing, that makes reading more interesting. It is hard for me to organize my thoughts when writing. The genre I feel most confident writing in is essays, I have more experience in that than any other type of writing. Poems are a type of writing that is hard for me, I like reading them but to write one is a different story. I prefer to read and write in english. I normally like to read in my room where it’s quite. Fiction books are what i lean towards more, I enjoy them the most. An author i’ve enjoyed reading is Stephen King. The first book I remember reading and enjoying was actually a graphic novel by Reina Telgemeier, It was titled “Smile”. I don’t really know what I am good at as a reader and writer.

  12. Alex Maldonado

My first feeling when being introduced to the course was nervous. I have struggled with time management in the past and coming out of a relatively easy English class my senior year of Highschool in which I did nothing was kind of worrisome to me. I understand that college in general is going to take a lot more effort out of me, but I know that nothing in life is obtained without hard work and effort. One thing about me as a reader is that I am a slow reader and I find it hard for me to read for extensive periods. One thing about me as a writer is that when I’m confident and passionate about a topic I can write about it for days. As previously stated, reading for long periods can be hard and also reading things that aren’t really interesting. I can read novels; I like comics and things that I can visualize. Other than that, anytime I read is more than likely to obtain some information about something. Writing is fun to me when I know what I am writing about, and I’m interested in the topic. It’s challenging for me to write research papers since I haven’t written much of those in my academic career. I read and write in English and my favorite spots to do so is either in my room or in the front office/empty room. In both places it’s mostly quiet and I can just zone into my work and what’s at task. I prefer to read books that either have a lesson to be taught or adventure/mystery books. As a kid I used to love the goosebumps books by R.L STINE. It was so intriguing to me but after a while trying to visualize got hard so that’s why I always leaned towards movies and videos. I haven’t free written in a while, so I’m so used to essays but I think my favorite thing to write is maybe Journal/self-reflection pieces. Stories and poems are kind of hard for me to write because I just don’t get into Rythm. Overall, as a reader I think I’m able to understand certain topics without trouble and as a writer when I’m confident on a topic I can write with stamina.

one word that describes how feeling about this course is excited. This is currently my first year of college which does make me kind of nervous. i honestly don’t know what to expect. I’m ready to give my all and basically not give up. I’m an okay reader. One thing I’ll like you to know about me as a reader/ writer is that I like to take my time while reading/ writing in order to completely understand what I am reading/writing. I enjoy reading historical fiction as well as realistic fiction. i can read and write in two languages but i prefer English. it makes it more easier for me. I love to read at my room or any place where there isn’t people or noise. I feel like i can concentrate better and put myself in the main character shoes. I like writing when it comes about personal stuff. I have a journal where i write basically everything and i find it a good way to express your feelings/ let everything out.

  14. Jalin Slater

I’m nervous about this course, specifically about being able to do well and stay engaged the whole time. The readings make me realize that my study habits aren’t always correct and as a result has negative effects on my information retention. As a reader and writer I tend to overthink things. The thing I like about reading and writing is the creativity especially when the book conveys a certain ideology that crops up throughout the book. I normally read fantastic or science fiction books and like to write essays because there’s a bit of a set formula when it comes to essay writing. I read and write in English. I prefer to read in the privacy of my own room.

  15. Yudenys Cepeda

Im feeling very enthusiastic about this course. Being a college student can be challenging in my aspects. English has always been an escape for me, as a form of expression. I have never been into reading and writing until my sophomore year of high school. I had an english teacher who embraced writting in a way that engaged us as students. Ever since learning with him, I’ve developed an intrest in creative writing and reading. One thing I would like you to know about me when it comes to reading and writing is I enjoy reading informational and self improvement books .I find poems difficult to read because the enjoyment of it comes from understanding it. Poetic writing don’t have direct dialogue. I prefer to read in Spanish, not because I’m better at it but because it reminds me of home and also helps me practice . I enjoy reading on the train, especially those long rides. My favorite book is called ‘The four amendments’. It talks about how we can grow as a person in the pursuit of learning not to judge, be impeccable with our words and not live In regret. I had never enjoyed a book so much in my life. I enjoy writing autobiographies a lot. Its like journaling and journaling is a stress reliever for many of us. I hope to learn new things in this class, as well as expand my interest for reading and writing.

  20. Dillon.D

As a first-year student at this college, my feelings that I am receiving towards this course is the sense of being overwhelmed. Attending college in person has become a big part of my life, because I commute from Long Island to this school, known as “City Tech.” One certain thing that you should know about me is that I find it difficult to create an idea to write about, but once I get my ideas together my writing comes together. When I tend to read, I like how it opens a story and makes your imagination run wild. One challenging thing about reading is that, when I see the size of the book, I start to feel anxious because of how long the book is. To be completely honest, one thing I like about writing is that it gives me freedom on whatever topic I choose to write about. One thing that I hate about writing is that I find it hard to sit down and start or continue writing, but once I get into my zone, I get my assignments done. I prefer to read and write in English because I understand it the most. The environment that I like to be in when I am reading is either in a quiet space such as my room, or in an area that has white noise around, for example, my living room. When reading the genres that I like are adventure, science fiction and mysteries. The first book that I remember that I enjoyed reding was named “Charlotte’s Web,” by E.B White. There are many types of writing that I struggle with, but none are coming to mind. When it comes to reding, I am decent at analyzing a brief text or a complete story, but when it comes to writing I am good at combining my ideas together to create a great writing piece.

  21. Nusrat zahan

One word that would describe my feelings about starting this course would be worried because I am not the best writer. Some of the things that I’m concerned about is my writing. I make lots of mistakes when I write something that I need to work on. In general, I would probably say my concern would be to be on top of my work and be consistent. One thing that I would like you to know about me as a writer is that I struggle with writing good essays and research papers. I enjoy reading a lot. My favorite author is Toni Morrison. I prefer reading and writing in English. I like to read in my room in a very quiet environment. That’s when I am very focused and do my best.

  22. Muhammad Khalid

    – Ambitious

    – I don’t have any concerns as an in-person student, in fact I’d always go for in person over online since I find it more productive to interact in a real-life environment. As for reading and writing, I find myself a decent writer when it comes to detail & explaining. However, when it comes to my reading skills there is always room for improvement.

    – As a reader & writer, I’m always looking to enhance my skills.

    – Reading can help most people improve their speaking skills, which I like. When reading, I struggle to properly pronounce advanced words, especially longer words such as Mischievous, Onomatopoeia, etc. I like to read books, mostly because I’ve only read books in & out of school. Reading itself isn’t really a big struggle but understanding what I’m reading can sometimes be difficult, such as the tardy piece we read. After reading it I just assumed that the author is surrounded by ignorant & apathetic people. Except that’s just my assumption and I still don’t know what the back story is.

    – Writing allows me to be creative with my thoughts, which is why I like to write. One of my struggles as a writer is that I do 90% thinking and 10% writing, some may say it’s a remarkable thing. However, I take an exceedingly long time to think about what I’ll be writing. I sometimes won’t start to write until 1-2 hours after brainstorming (major assignments). My favorite genre to write in would be essays because I’ve written so many essays in my school career, I’ve just learned to like it. I struggle the most in writing when it comes to early modern English, mostly because I don’t understand it very well and I’ve never really learnt or tried speaking it.

    – I prefer to read & write in English.

    – When it comes to reading, I prefer to read in a busy environment or with music because it challenges my mind to stay focused on my reading & also can help time pass if you are at a subway.

    – Informational & financial related genres are my favorite since those are the only types that in my opinion help people expand their mindset. The first book that I read & enjoyed was Rich Dad Poor Dad.

    – I prefer writing poems since they are a fantastic way to learn in rhythm, and each poem expresses its lesson or story in its own way. I find writing essays somewhat hard since each essay has its own format and many minute details which are needed to form an essay such as minimum or maximum words, certain standards for quotations, arguments, and ideas of others, etc.

    – As a reader I’m great at visualizing the situation & actions being read. When it comes to writing I’m exceptionally good at paying attention to detail & I’m always open to changes.
