In 20th Century Dress and Culture, I explored the evolution of fashion history from the late 19th century to the present, examining the various influences that shaped clothing during each era. I analyzed how economics, politics, religion, and culture informed dress development through readings, videos, discussions, and industry insights from guest speakers and field trips. My projects delved into the relationship between historical periods and their fashion, culminating in a final project analyzing how costumes in the film reflect and enhance a character’s personality. This research emphasized the role of clothing as a storytelling device, connecting cultural context with individual expression. The course offered a comprehensive view of how societal forces shape the fashion industry and its creations. These experiences sharpened my ability to critically assess the interplay between culture, history, and design.
