To-Do After Class 

  • If you don’t already have them, purchase the required drafting supplies
  • Sign the Academic Integrity Pledge and complete the Pre-Reading and Drawings Assessment
  • Reading 1 
    • Refer to the reading list on the ARCH 1231 Course Hub for specific pages
    • Submit scanned + formatted Reading Notes+ Sketches
    • In addition to your notes + sketches, be sure to reflect on and answer the following questions:
      • How does the book define architecture? 
      • How does that compare / contrast with my own understanding of architecture?
    • Due Friday 2/3, 12pm to Miro
  • Visit Federal Hall
    • Take in the space
      • Sketch + take pictures
        • These will help you when you’re drawing the building later
      • Try to understand how the building is supported
        • What are the main structural elements? Walls? Columns? Both?
    • Post one sketch from your visit and a selfie of you in front of the building by Friday 2/3, 12pm to Miro
  • Module I: Case Study Order and Geometry Diagram
    • Study the first floor plan of Federal Hall
    • On the Miro board, produce a diagram breaking the floor plan down into its key geometric forms
      • This is just a first pass, so experimentation is encouraged!
    • Due Friday 2/3, 12pm to Miro
