Even’s Portraits

Walker’s Evens’ Subway Portraits are creepy but yet interesting. He photographed people when they weren’t conscious that there was a camera present. It shows their “real” mood and their posture isn’t fixed as if these individuals saw a camera. I think it was a genius idea to hide the camera to be quite honest. To compare it to the Great Depression, I would say there are some similarities. In today’s world, the majority of the commuters are usually distracted by a phone or book. In the photos I have seen, they look more engaging and communicating with one another during the train ride. But there are some pictures that I viewed that has similarities, like the man reading the newspaper. Commuters still do it. It would seem a little risky to do Evan’s method in today’s society, though.
