Alex: Social media and art

When it comes to both photography and social media I feel both bring a different meaning to the word art. Photography can be used as art in many different ways. It gives views to the world through someone elseā€™s eyes and can bring light to a way of viewing something in a new perspective. It can express emotion and convey a message without the use of any words. As cameras became a part of our everyday life photography has been a lot more prominent. That being the case, it made a huge change in the world once social media came around. As a whole, social media isnā€™t considered art. Itā€™s a way of easily posting something that can be seen by anyone no matter the content. On the other hand social media can be used as a platform for art. Whether it be creating, promoting or selling it works on many levels. Art is everywhere and in this generation on a large scale photography and social media is where it meets. Not all things on there can be considered art. It is more of a self expression from something they see/do or a place they are at. In many cases this is where a selfie comes in to play. A selfie is this generations way of saying I was there. Itā€™s a way of putting a postmark on somewhere youā€™ve been by placing yourself in the picture with the ā€œartā€. Social media can be great for many things but at the same time it could be used for nonsense and just be a huge ego trip for people but not in every case. Like everything else it has its positives and negatives but I feel social media can be a great way to be exposed to art from around the world right at your finger tips.
