Others

  • Understanding design uniformity and continuity throughout a multiple page publication such as a book (for example: keeping headings the same, using similar typefaces, using similar placement).
  • Learn the differences between a cover page and a title page

Activities

  • During Class
    Sketch at least eight (6) quick thumbnail sketches (quick studies to develop ideas). Develop ideas based on your knowledge of typography. If you are thinking BOLD and CONDENSED, then sketch quickly but that way.
  • Create a new post named “Last Name_First_Name_ TC_cover_thumbnails”
  • Give it categories:
    “Student Post” and “Student Post Type Challenge”
  • Insert jpg INTO your post.

BOOK cover/ title page is due next class: Complete in InDesign PAGE 1

  1. Use PAGE 1 of your InDesign Book File
    Design a cover
  2. Save your InDesign file
  3. Export Page 1 only PDF
    Lastname_firstname_cover1.pdf
  4. Place PDF file only in Google Drive

LOOKING AHEAD

  • Design Continuity (uniformity of headings, margins, color, etc)
    • Look at all your pages, make sure that all headings are the same typeface, size, style, are on the same placement.
  • Content:
    • COVER (Page 1) : Typography Review / Featuring the name of your performer / Your Name
    • Vocabulary (Page 2)
    • Classifications (Pages 3,4,5)
    • Variation in Type:
      • Width/Weight/Posture (Pages 6,7,8)
    • Alignment (Pages 9,10)
    • Leading (Page 11)
    • Tracking & Kerning (Page 12)
    • Type on a Path (Page 13)

  • Typography concepts and InDesign:
    • Go through your pages, make sure that they are corrected as per comments and class lectures. It is your responsibility to also have a typographically correct book, and that ALL topics explained in class are taken into consideration. For example in the Classification of Type assignment, should have correct tracking and kerning.
    • Additionally we are following a grid (InDesign file). Items on your pages must follow it.

Graphic Assignments are always due the day before next class by 11:30pm, and must be placed in class drive unless indicated otherwise.

Participation Activities (Scavenger Hunts, Type Talks and Type Challenges) are due either during class or the day before class at 11:30 pm as indicated by instructor.
