Journal 9 – James Levin’s Lecture

On Monday, we received the visit of James Levin, founder of Job Search Therapy, a recruitment Company. One of the facts that stroke my attention was how he got his first internship. As soon as he graduated from Photography College, he made a phone call to the Photography studio where he wanted to work. This studio was one of the most important of the world; he asked to talk straight with the owner. The call was transferred, and he managed to make an appointment with one of the most prominent photographers of the world. Once he got the internship, he did his best; even doing jobs that weren’t what he was qualified for, like going for the coffee or cleaning the area. After his internship period was over, he was offered a position in the studio, and started a career working with some of the most famous artist of the time.

Other things that I learned from the lecture were this:

1• Dream big: What probably looks like a very hard to get goal is probably easier if you just try. Give yourself the opportunity of trying, the doors open to those who knock on them.

2• Value the Opportunity: Give a good impression, be always there, with a good attitude. You never know if that internship will become the job of your dreams.

3• Is always good to be around, going for the coffee is not a bad job: I mean, to start with is very common for companies, to use their interns to do the most diverse jobs like answering phone calls, running errands or cleaning the area. We should take this as an opportunity to showcase our work disposition, and do our best in order to escalate to the position we really want.

4• Network: No matter how introvert you are, always make an effort to meet new people. At the long run this could be a very important benefit. So, get out of the comfort zone, and start putting your name out there.

At the end he handed us his business card, and ask for questions. Overall, I found the lecture, very pleasing, and learned some real world experiences that could be very helpful in the long term.
