Journal 1 – AIR Office at Citytech

This is the office of the Assessment and Institutional Research at New York City College of Technology, and is the place where I’m going to be doing my Internship.

According to their website:

“The office strives to help faculty inform collaborative conversations around policy formation and the revision of administrative practice to improve student success. City Tech also utilizes assessment best practices to monitor progress of students, identify program strengths and weaknesses and provide meaningful data for its constituents.

The staff members of the City Tech AIR Team have become leaders in assessment best practices throughout the nation and the world. The team has presented their model for general education assessment, creating and sustaining a culture of assessment for learning. The team has actively worked with faculty and administrators in launching their assessment systems or consulting on best practices in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, United Arab Emirates; Beirut, Lebanon; Cairo, Egypt; Doha, Qatar; Durban, South Africa; London, England; Paris, France; Sao Paolo, Brazil; Toronto, Canada; Vancouver, Canada and numerous locations throughout the United States.

The AIR team strongly promotes faculty as leaders in the assessment and continuous improvement process in order to create and sustain a useful assessment system. The AIR team also includes key constituents heavily in its work, including the College’s Center for Teaching and Learning, Student Government Association, Tutoring Center, Learning Communities, Student Activities, and the College’s Open Lab.”

Hopefully, this will be a great and very instructive experience.
