Journal 7 – Broadway Shines Logo

The next project we worked on was the re-design of the Broadway Shines logo. Broadway Shines is a non-Profit Organization founded by Stephen Daldry and Tammie Cumming, which brings help to former Broadway stars kids in order to learn how to deal with a relatively anonymous life.

The organization, which was originally called Broadway Kids care already had a logo, but they weren’t happy with it, so once they changed the name, they decided to go in a different direction. Our Idea for the logo was to do something related to Broadway and to the idea of Charity, since the Organization not only brings help to former Kid Stars, but also works in several areas serving the community and doing voluntary work.

The first thing that come to my mind was the image of hands related to solidarity, and the star related to Broadway. This idea was later morphed in different variations, such as trees, theater stages and others.

We did the first bunch of designs, which was given to Dr. Tammie for revision. She, right away rejected the drafts, saying that she didn’t want any human parts in the logo; I was using hands. We, then proceeded to do some other variations using only typography, or no-human symbols, such as stars.

We gave another bunch of logos to Tammie, and in the subsequent days, we continued working and refining some of the logo designs. Finally, Tammie and Stephen picked one of the logos, but we didn’t receive confirmation that they were going to use it.
