5/2/22 Freewrite: Unit 3 Initial Reflection

Itā€™s Unit 3: Writing in a New Genre time! Hereā€™s what we should be thinking/writing about for this freewrite: Reflect upon the major unit activities weā€™ve worked on this semester, the Education Narrative, the RAB (Reflective Annotated Bibliography) and now the final genre research project. In your freewrite address the following questions:

-How do you think the major unit projects fit together? How are they related? Be specific and use examples from each (not direct quotations from your work, but the themes and ideas). Try to draw connections between your narrative, bibliography and now your research project.

-Explain the rationale behind what (and how!) you plan on writing about for your research project. If you are choosing to write a conventional research essayā€”which most (all?) of you seem to beā€”for your final project, explain specifically why. Think about it! Of all the options you have (TedTalk, podcast, video essay, etc.), justify your decision to write a research paper. Why is it the most effective way to reach the audience you intend to address?

-What do you think you might have done differently in your projects so far, and what might you do differently in the future? This kind of reflection will be included in your ā€œartist statementā€ in the final project, so really thinking and writing about this today will mean you can include it in your draft of the project. Also included will be:

  1. Context: Give us the background for this project. Remind us how you became interested in the topic.
  2. Rhetorical Situation and Related Choices: Tell us the ā€œwhyā€ of your project. What was your purpose for making this project? What audience did you want to direct this information to? Why that audience specifically? Where did you see your piece being shown or distributed to your audience? What appeals did you decide to use (which, of course, may have changed later): facts (logos), emotion (pathos), the credibility of you or someone you talk about (ethos)?
  3. Genre Considerations: Why did you chose the genre you did? What made you think that genre would be the best one for your audience? For example, if you did a brochure, what made a brochure the best way to get the information to your chosen audience ā€” that is, you knew you had a place to distribute it so that seemed logical?

Doing the project: Walk us chronologically through the process you went through to get it done: this then this then thisā€¦ What did you have to change and when? Did you throw out your original idea altogether, and if so, why? Who/where did you turn to for help? When did you panic (if you did) and what did you do about it?

Post your response here in the comment section, and I will give feedback. You can include what you work on in this freewrite– or some version of it– in the Artist Statement of your final project.

Looking back at the first major assignment and now, at the annotated bibliography, I think everything linked together to the major assignment form Unit 3. The educational narrative helped me choose the topic for my last writing for Unit 3. In my narrative I wrote about how my journey with dentistry started and why it became so important to me. That inspired me to choose my research project topic about how oral health affects out whole body. The annotated bibliography for me is a beginning of Unit 3. We basically had to choose sources for out research project. That helped me to find very interesting websites and articles about the topic that Iā€™m interested in.

I choose to write a research project because I think this will be the best way to introduce my arguments to my audience. The audience will be adults, college students and also I want to include some information that will be helpful to people who just start in dental industry to help them educate patients. I donā€™t feel comfortable enough to record podcast or video. This topic id very important to me so I want my message to be as clear as possible. Why is it so important to me? Because it is about our health, mental and physical health. Many people still do not know why having healthy mouth is so fundamental.

Context: While writing my narrative essay I unlocked a lot of my memories from early childhood. My main fear was the fear of dentists. It was because I had no idea about prevention in terms of oral health. I used to only go to the dentist when I had a problem with my teeth. Thatā€™s why it was always a bad experience. This is how I came up with the research project topic. I want people to be more aware of what can happen if they donā€™t brush their teeth or they donā€™t see the dentist every 6 months. I would like to educate my audience that prevention is the key to healthy mouth and body.

My purpose of making this project is to explain the importance of oral health, educate my audience. My audience would be adults and also college students who decide to work in dental industry. My project could be shown in dental offices, for patients to read. I decided to use examples from my own experience. I have worked in many dental offices, in different countries. I think those might be very interesting for the audience to read.

The first project that we worked on helped us to find a meaningful topic to work on. In the second project, which is all connected with the first project we worked on, we had to create a research question and find three credible sources related to that question. In the third project, now based on the information that weā€™ve gathered from both the first and the second project, we can work on a genre of our choice and develop the topic that weā€™ve decided to work on.

My project is about the impact of oral health on diabetic patients, my audience would be diabetic adults and diabetic teenagers that may not consider taking care of their oral health. The genre that Iā€™ll be working on for this final project will be a video essay. I consider this genre the best way to reach my intended audience because when it comes to health, itā€™s better to show a video with the images of peopleā€™s experiences regarding the topic along with texts instead of a long research paper that may be difficult for them (adults) to read.

    3-
I wouldnā€™t have changed or done anything differently in this project. I believe this is an important topic/ issue that should be addressed to stop peopleā€™s suffering around the world. Iā€™m interested in this topic since it will help countless diabetic patients that get the opportunity to hear about this project and get advised of the circumstances that theyā€™d be facing if they donā€™t take care of their oral health.

2- The intended audience for this project is diabetic adults and diabetic teenagers. These groups of patients are the most impacted on their oral health by diabetes and itā€™s important to address the issue to find solutions. The appeals Iā€™ve decided to use are logos and ethos. Iā€™m sure the pieces of information Iā€™ve gathered regarding this project are all credible and informative for my audience.

3- The reason why Iā€™ve decided to work on this genre is that is a new genre to explore. I believe the best way to catch the audienceā€™s attention is by providing something comfortable and truthful for them. I donā€™t consider that for my intended audience (diabetic adults) would be great to read a research paper. The video essay will include texts and images of peopleā€™s experiences, audio, etc…

4- The part that I struggled the most during this project was trying to make a complete research question. As far as I remember, my research question used to be extremely broad. I got help from my professor and came up with a better specific research question for my project. It was the part of the process that I struggled with the most. However, I found great credible articles and YouTube videos that didnā€™t make it hard for me to find the information I was expecting to get.

I think everything linked together to the major assignment to Unit 3. In the first unit, I wrote about a striking experience and how it changed my perception of the educational system, which helped me open up about it and to start the healing process because it was a frustrating event.
On that came unit two when you started brainstorming about an idea that you want to talk about, you presented different aspects of it and it’s also the beginning of unit 3. We had to choose different sources for our topics and how to write the bibliography.
They all are fit together, in a way that each assignment but ing you closer to the other assignments:
1.I became interested in this project because of a similar experience that happened to be. I was being judged because of my race.
2.The reason why is that I want people to stop judging people by color, race, and ethnicity. I want to inform college students, kids, grown-ups, and the elderly.
    3. I will present this project as a slide presentation.

In my opinion the major unit projects will fit together because they are related. They are related to each other because in both inut 2 and 3 we have to do a research and it’s basically more of a research project. My first unit which was Narrative project helped me to choose a topic for Unit two which is RAB and in both units I talked about my story and how the topic i chose for unit 2 affect me and why did i chose that topic.
I am planning to write the research essay for my final research project because writing it in a essay makes it more clear and I’m more comfortable about wriitng an essay instead of Tedtalk, podcast, video essay, etc. Also I have never done any TedTalks, podcasts or video essays, so I think it will be good for me to write a research essay for my final project.
I believe it will be the most effective way to reach the audience by writing a research paper because in paper I can provide as much details as possible to make it clear and I can be more spicific while writing research project.
I believe that so far I would not have done anything differently to my projects because I think all the topics and what I’ve dont so far is good enough and I am not planning to change anything such as my topics and my research.

So basically I was interested in my topic which is about Covid-19 since it started, I was interested how did it happen and where did it came from. And my purpose for my research topic was to tell a little bit of my self and how this topic related to me and another purpose was to tell people more about the faith and science during the covid-19. The audience will be more of scientists and religious people. I chose to inform specifically scienctists and religious people becuase I want to give them examples of how covid affected some people of faith and people who believe in science during pandemic. Also I want to give my opinion about how pandemic affected people of faith and people who believe in science.
I am planning to use logos and ethos in my research paper to make it more spicific, interesting and as well as powerful.

I choose to write a reseach essay becuase I believe that my research topic and as well as myself is good at writing an essay becuase Ihave done it since middle school, however, I have never done Tedtalk, podcast, video essay, etc. And the genre I chose will be helpful to my audience because they might want to use some sources or references I will provide.

At the beginning of my Unit 2 project it was hard for me to choose a good topic and them it was hard for me to find good sources about that topic so I had to be more spicific about my topic and I had to narrow my topic down in order to find good sources. I did so, I narrowed down my research topic and found 3 good sources. Finnaly at the end I found good sources and used them in my reseach project and finished my paper with good sources.

In my opinion, everything is connected with the main assignment of Unit 3. In the first unit, I wrote about the experience of learning in my life and how it changed my perception of the details of learning, which helped me to open up about it and start the healing process because it was a frustrating event.
When you started thinking about an idea you wanted to talk about in Unit 2, you presented different aspects of it and it happened at the beginning of Unit 3. We had to choose different sources for our subjects and how to write a bibliography.
These all fit together, so that each assignment puts you closer to the other assignment:
While writing my narrative essay I unlocked a lot of my memories from early my education Journey. I became interested in this project because of a similar experience that happened to be. I was being judged because of my race. I will present this project as a slide presentation.

I think all the major assignments are connected to each other. In the first major assignment we worked on an education narrative essay. The second major assignment we worked on was about finding three credible sources related to our question. Now in the 3rd project we have to use the 2nd major assignment, now with information that weā€™ve gathered from both the first and the second project, we can work on a genre of our choice and develop the topic that weā€™ve decided to work on.
I chose to write this essay because I wanted to convey the message that the whole world has become phone addict and what are the results going to be in the future as well as what’s happening right now. The audience is going to be youngsters and adults, both.
I chose this genre because nowadays it’s digital world and everyone is reading blogs and articles and they believe on the blogs and article more than anything else.
