As a resident in Brooklyn, i have never seen an area like Brooklyn Navy Yard that is so dedicate in Green energy, building, environment, and also saving historic buildings. I think Brooklyn Navy Yard will have huge impact toward the future of New York City as a pathfinder. we the people in NYC knows that to make a changes for the city will take lots of money and time. i am happy to see that Brooklyn Navy Yard has shown me the future of New York City and also the better environment for us.
The tour of going to the Brooklyn Navy Yard has found to be interesting and amusing. As a matter of fact I didn’t know about catching oysters in the harbor and that you cannot consume them due to the toxic inside the harbor. One person according to the tourist guy, he said nobody had servied eating a raw oyster like that since 1926 and to this day nobody lived until then.
Another amazing tour that I found to be interesting and that can help for our project is the garden on the roof top and that they use compost to make soil to grow plants and is very interesting how they compost. Composting is a very important impact on the enviormnemt and it helps people save alot of waste that goes around the country. Remeber it is very important to compost especially if you want to get nice fresh fruits and vegetables .

The trip to the Brooklyn Navy Yard was fairly unique and interesting. In fact, it was somewhat mind boggling due to its structural built. From the outside of Building 92 you get the feeling you’re back in the mid 20’. A lot of that has to do with the history of the space. For many years this was the repair center for some of the largest ships in the United States. Today, they are revolutionizing our environment by providing manufactures with yard houses, as they practice a green initiative. I believe this is great for businesses as they work on an environmental solution, and are able to keep their cost at a low margin. Overall, my experience to the Brooklyn Navy Yard was excellent. I hope to return in the near future for the “Pigeon Light Show”
I found to be very interesting the tour to the Brooklyn Navy Yard. I learned so much about this facility and what they do for the community and for themselves as a business. I was amazed to hear that they have programs to help the community to find jobs and to involve them in their activities. It was interesting to know about their sustainable architectures and compost programs.
One of their sustainable actions that make them sustainable is their water conservation and storm water management with the sewer systems in the yard and with the water-loving plants that conserve water, and minimize the storm water to run in to the East River.
I notice the tour to the Brooklyn Navy Yard was very educational and interesting. Their idea to preserve different historical design and energy efficient building is interesting, since many business prefer profit over everything else. Their actions to prevent sewer overflow by spending money on planting small water absorbing tree in front of the building and other unique ways is something I didn’t know.
Also, what really caught my interest is using solar panels to provide heat for the boiler. When people think of solar panels, many think of providing electricity, but I learn that the solar panels can also provide heat for the boilers. This is a different way for the use of solar panels.
I found Brooklyn Navy Yard Tour very interesting and entertaining. An opportunity to see sustainability practices applied in real life is beneficial to anyone who is planning to build a career in the industry.
The Brooklyn Navy Yard serves a model for sustainable urban industrial parks and proves that even one of the most dirties and contaminated place in the city in the past with careful care can get a second chance and become home to modern industrial and creative businesses. The tour explored property along Brooklyn’s industrial waterfront and we had an opportunity to take a closer look at the Yard’s most intriguing sites, including a dry dock that’s been used for ship repair since 1851, historic buildings that are being adaptively reused for industrial purposes, and the Green Manufacturing Center, a future hub for the development of new products and technologies. The tour guide showed historical photographs from the site’s Naval past, as well as told stories of industrial innovators at the Yard today.
I will definitely recommend this tour to my friends and family.
I found the trip to the Brooklyn Navy Yard as a very interesting experience. what I found really interesting was the fact that most of their buildings were not new structures built from scrap but instead they used old building and just remodeled them to fit modern styles. The entrance building of our trip was what caught my attention the most the fact that they built a new building over a very old building to preserved it, that was not something that you see every day so it was really interesting.
It was interesting to learn that Brooklyn Navy Yard is a home to a variety of companies. And that they work with a big concern for the environment, architectural preservation, while staying financially accessible. While most of the companies at the Brooklyn Navy Yard are large industrial companies they operate in sustainable ways. Some of the examples are preservation of original architecture, collection and repurpose of rain water, plants and trees selection, rooftop gardens, solar panels, windmills, oyster bays and much more.
A new discovery for me was the innovative way of building apartment units at the Brooklyn Navy Yard that will come together to produce a high rise building. There are many benefits to opting for this method as opposed to the traditional on site building. Benefits such as air quality, workers safety, reduction in construction time, and the size of construction site.
The features I liked most about the tour was the rain water collection system they have in front of building 92 as well as the sky garden and apartment modules. I personally have an interest in real estate and would love to implement many of the techniques they showed to us at the tour. I also enjoyed the USS missouri battle ship which was an amazing piece of work. Perhaps i may install some defense cannons for my houses as well haha.
What impressed me, about The Brooklyn Navy Yard was the functionality of the installation. what was once used as a warship production facility has now been converted into a operations installation that benefits New York City. What was also impressive, and informative was learning about the many different tenants that now occupy the Navy Yard. The various tenants specializations range from film studios to Army gear production. The micro apartments were also interesting to see. The highlight was the musuem housed in building 92. There we saw a tremendous showcase of Navy History. The Navy Yard serves as a modern day example of modern innovation and industrialization, while still maintaining the dignity and splendor of its Naval and Maritime History.
