Sonia’s Nursing Philosophy

Sonia’s Nursing Philosophy

Nursing is to care for the well-being of others. I believe caring from a nurse’s perspective is giving of oneself by expressing compassion and empathy for the welfare of the human, holistically, including soul, body, and mind. All people are created equal and deserve to be treated with respect and equality at all times, including when experiencing a decline in wellness that requires the expert care of a nurse. I believe when planning care for the clients, they should be allowed to participate in their care while the nurse utilize evidence-based practice and client preferences, in order to coordinate highest level of care with the expectation of achieving positive outcome and client satisfaction.

I believe a nurse should value the profession by performing only those skills that are permitted by the American Nurses Association (ANA), and the Nurse Practice Act (NPA), referred to as the scope of practice. A nurse who practices the specified permitted skills exhibits professionalism in respecting the law while maintaining safety for the clients and eventually will develop a relationship where the nurse is trusted.

A nurse is to maintain client confidentiality, exhibit a caring attitude, competency and accountability in every client operation. A nurse is responsible for being an advocate, collaborator, caregiver, researcher, and a case manager. It is the full responsibility of the nurse to be knowledgeable on the process of the skills of nursing, namely- assessing, diagnosing, planning, intervention, and evaluation in order to prevent and treat illnesses and to maintain the wellness of the clients. As healthcare changes to meet the high demands of the client population and new technology, a nurse must stay current with knowledge base by participating in nursing organizations or in researches.

As a nurse, I am committed to enhance my nursing knowledge as I continue to work while striving for excellency in upgrading my education, being aware of and embracing the multiple changes that this unique nursing profession has to offer, so that I can be better each day at helping the clients, their families, and the community to maintain a healthy way of life.
