Narrative Self-Reflection

My Learning Self-Analysis- I migrated to the United States of America (USA) in the spring of 1993. I have always thought of a job where I can help people who are ill. I became a registered professional nurse (RN) in 2006. In fall 2011, I registered in New York City College of Technology where I am pursuing my bachelors of science degree in nursing (BSN). I observed that there is much difference in studying for the AAS and BSN. In studying to obtain the AAS I realize that I needed to grasp and utilize all the unique nursing skills necessary to practice taking care of the patients. The focus of study was about the diseases and all the issues that directly affects the patients. In obtaining the BSN, I observed that there was a different approach. Studying and focusing on the various types of nursing issues in the workplace, communities, nation, locally, internationally, and politically was the focus which makes me aware that I am well equipped to be a leader in this evolving healthcare arena. I enjoy learning and the expanded knowledge that nursing has to offer. The ability to multi-task allows me to function beyond the imaginable. This program helps me to see the nursing profession as a well- rounded profession for a multitude of experiences and opportunities and my senses are ready to engulf every moment of learning. Being a nurse outweighs any challenges I may encounter during my profession and in this program each professor I had the opportunity to learn with does an excellent job in fostering an effective learning environment for me to excel to meet my highest potential.

Dressing professionally and being on time in the clinical areas are essential aspects of the program which help prepare me for the real world of professionalism. The clinical settings are facilities in the communities where the student nurses help to meet the needs of the patients appropriately, according to facility and program protocol. I was able to collaborate with the healthcare teams and the clients in my assigned clinical settings which enabled me to share my knowledge on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle, while I took time to listen to their concerns and addressed them. Confidentiality is extremely important in healthcare delivery and must be maintained at all times. The BSN program at New York City College of Technology is thorough and based on evidence, and excellency in all areas is required throughout the program.
