Ludmila Hellmann-Kavalla, also known as Mila Kavalla, was an Austrian illustrator and graphic designer. She graduated from the Vienna Academy of Applied Arts in 1950. Her work, from student pieces to early client commissions, is celebrated at the Letterform Archive. Kavalla collaborated with iconic Austrian brands, including “PEZ,” for which she created an illustration of a mitten holding the famous candy. She primarily used gouache to produce vivid and detailed images, often incorporating fabric, textiles, and fashion accessories into her designs.

I chose to research her because her work feels familiarā€”like something Iā€™ve seen in my illustration class. Her artworks are highly engaging and visually appealing. My favorite piece,Ā Skeins of Wool, stands out for its vibrant colors and intricate, realistic textile details.
