Summary

Takashi Murakami was born on February 1, 1962, in Tokyo, Japan. He is widely known for his ability to adopt Japanese art into his work to operate within the context of popular culture. He said that he wasn’t a good drawer but with hard work he was able to sharpen his skills. Murakami had his first solo show in 1989, at Tokyo’s Ginza Surugadai Gallery, and began traveling from Japan to New York City around that time.

This is a sculpture of a blue-haired woman whose comically oversized breasts unleash a torrent of milk. Takashi states “I thought that the bizarreness of sexuality manifested in the Japanese otaku culture was unprecedented elsewhere, creating brand-new rules for designing human forms, …My intention was to merge that form with the rules of contemporary art.”

My Art Style

The reason why I chose Takashi Murakami is because I’ve began to learn about contemporary art not too long ago but ever since I learned about it, I have been a fan. I personally love to draw but I hate to paint because I am not that good at it. But when he said that hard work will help you sharpen your skills. I really love his Field of Flowers work because I love the use of colors and the creativity.
