In my third semester, we about pharmacology. We’ve learned the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of various medications. I was surprised by how many drug contraindications, drug interactions and side effects there are. Even with common over-the counter-medication such as NSAIDs have precautions. Additionally, many at-home remedies can have synergetic effects on different medications. I was assigned the topic gotu kola. It is quite appealing for customers because it is an organic and all-natural product that comes in various forms. It’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects are commonly used for wound healing, chronic venous insufficiency, and cognitive function. Although this particular remedy does not have any known dental implications, as health educators we do have a responsibility to have general knowledge concerning natural products.
