Micro-Activity # 3: Malcolm X

Quote 1: ” It was because of my letters that I happened to stumble upon starting to acquire some kind of a homemade education,”

Response: For Malcolm X to learn more and more about how he should respond to criticism,  and to the people that kept him from expressing his opinion, he sent letters, and by sending those letters over and over again, he learned to write with an exponential growth, because Malcolm X always had the idea of frustration mitigating him from expressing what he wanted to convey to his fellow friends.

Quote 2: “As you can imagine, especially in a prison where there was heavy emphasis on rehabilitation,  an inmate is smiled upon if he demonstrated as unusually intense interest in books.”

Response: This part of the reading is interesting in the manner that it demonstrates how secluded and how different did it feel around him (Malcolm X) to do things that everyone else around him does not do on a daily basis.

Quote 3: “The teachings of Mr. Muhammad stressed how history had been ” whitened” – when white men had written history books, the black man simply had been left out. ”

Response: The idea being expressed by Malcolm X is interesting because he expresses how the religion being taught to him is lying to him about his beliefs, which he no longer decides to no longer abide by those rules.

    Kevin,

You have clearly read the material closely. The next time you do a double-entry journal, include more of how the quotes resonate with you — give some details as to how and why it affected you.
