Test 2 Review: Updated with references to the textbook

Test 2 is scheduled for the first 50 minutes of class on Wednesday 19 March.

The review Self-Tests were handed out in class and are also available on theĀ PiazzaĀ discussion board, where you can ask questions if you get stuck!

Below the fold are references to the sections of the textbook that you should study for each problem if you are having trouble with it.

Part A:

1) Session 8, sections 8.1 and 8.3

2) Session 8, section 8.2, statement (8.3) p. 106 [The Remainder Theorem] and Example 8.11

3) Session 8, section 8.2, statement (8.4) p.106 [The Factor Theorem] and Example 8.12. Alternatively, you could use synthetic (or long) division to determine whether or not the remainder is 0.

4) Session 8, section 8.3 and you are showing that you get remainder 0. See also Example 8.13(a), which uses long division instead of synthetic division.

5) [it erroneously says 4 again on the sheet] Session 9, section 9.1. (See also the summary in this post. For the end behavior, see Observation 9.6 on pages 115-116.) Examples 9.7, 9.8

Part B:

1)(a, b) Session 6, Examples 6.6, 6.7

1c) Session 7, Observation 7.9 and Example 7.10

2) Session 7, Example 7.6

3) Session 7, section 7.1

4) Session 5, section 5.2, and Example 5.6

Part C:

1) and 2): Session 3, Examples 3.9 and 3.10 (and Exercise 3.8); Session 7, Observation 7.3 and Example 7.4

3)Ā Session 5, section 5.2, and Example 5.6
