PRINCIPLES OF DENTAL HYGIENE CARE III: CLINICAL CASE STUDY

This clinical case study is based on a patient that I treated in clinic that had Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). OSA is the most commonly undiagnosed sleep disorder and is gaining more recognition in dentistry. Dental hygienists should be able to discuss the risks, characteristics, provide referrals and treatment options for OSA, as well as detect if a patient has OSA through asking a series of questions and conducting an intraoral examination. Dental hygienists should receive appropriate education about OSA and be knowledgeable when treating their patients.
