This week you’ll be pitching your Writing in a New Genre assignments. In order to convince me that you’ve chosen an appropriate and interesting topic, as well as the correct genre (ideally from the 3 you came up with in your Brainstorm) for your audience, you should write at least 200 words explaining what you’ll argue, what sorts of evidence you’ll use to prove those points, and what GENRE you’ll present all of this in and why that genre will best reach your intended AUDIENCE.

Please post this under the “Unit 3” Category by Wednesday before *5 PM*.

Final draft

The unexpected legalization of marijuana in many states in the US has brought a lot of attention to American citizens. Medical marijuana is one of the many controversial issues in society today. Medical marijuana has been a continuous fight between the federal government, doctors, and patients. On another hand, studies have proven that medical marijuana can be extremely beneficial in eliminating side effects. The main thing about why specifically I chose to write about this topic is that people are still incarcerated for it. The targeted audience for my research should be any teen-adult, the ages of let’s say 21-50. A Lot of young people enjoy marijuana as seen in a lot of movies or even social media. Also, for many older people, it helps with any type of pain and is medication to a lot of ill people.

This topic specifically stood out to me and got my attention because ever since I a youngin in middle school I always knew about it but not really understood what it was, I knew it was a drug and from that, I knew to stay away from it. The more I grew up the more I heard about it. The first time I heard it again was in my freshman year in high school. Either someone had told me or I saw it on one of my social media that marijuana can be used as a medicine for some illnesses. From that point on, I researched and learned something very new and interesting.

Week 15: LAST WEEK!!

All,

As promised, here is a video explainer for the Final Portfolio and Reflection – your LAST assignment in this course. (Yes, I know I made it last semester, but again just the deadlines are different – the assignment is the same). It is due Tuesday 5/18 @ 5 PM, and must include the following:

(Revised) Unit 1 Assignment
(Revised) Unit 2 Assignment
(Revised) Unit 3 Assignment
Final Reflection

N.B. As it says on the Final Portfolio Assignment page, you must write a brief note introducing each revised essay explaining what you’ve changed. The length of these notes should be in accordance with how significantly you revised: if you only tinkered with grammar/spelling/punctuation (everybody should do more than that), you would only write a sentence or two; if you rewrote the essay from the ground up, a full paragraph is more like it.

You MUST submit these Final Portfolios using the “Portfolio & Reflection” category tag – if you don’t I won’t see them and you won’t get a grade.

I go into lots of detail about the Final Reflection on the assignment page and also in the video I posted above. If you have ANY questions whatsoever, I will be available this Wednesday from 3-4 or by email anytime. Please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Seeing as it’s finals week next week, I don’t want to crowd you’re already busy week with a Zoom class session in which we say goodbye. I’m not that much of a softie. As such, it’s vital that you reach out to me AS SOON AS you run into any confusion about this final assignment, as the 5/18 deadline is firm and final.

Pitching

In my Unit #2 assignment I decided to write about technology. I believe technology is a big problem in our world today being that there is so much of it and it continues to advance. If we think about it we use it everyday for many purposes, but it’s a good resource. Even I use it on a daily for school or to even look up a match on ESPN. People will ask but why talk about Technology ? if there is many things to talk about. Many of us don’t realize how addictive we’re are to this cellular devices. What I will give my audience are images of actual information on how effective it can be this will beneficial because it gives you a visual information on my topic, people will get bored of me just explaining so it will keep them entertained. I will talk about my experience during this pandemic we all learned something new or caught habits either bad or good, this will help my readers engage with my writing giving them a better understanding of it as well as many possibly relating to it.
