As technology continues to advance, how can technology help our world emerge stronger with its pros and cons? Technology affects the way people learn and think. It helps society interact with each other on a day-to-day basis. Technology plays an important role in society today. It has positive and negative effects on the world which impacts daily lives. We are living in an era where technology is always advancing; it is common in the new generation. The internet and phones are great resources for us to use but it also has a downside to it. Technology that has a great impact on society is how it affects learning. It’s made learning more interactive and collaborative. This helps people better engage with the material that they are learning or have trouble with. The creation of the internet gives us access to information at twenty-four hours giving us access to almost anything online. People can access learning through YouTube and social media now, helping them learn better than having to sit down for hours listening to a lecture or read textbooks. These technological advancements made learning more fun and convenient for many of us having to do remote learninghttps://www.forbes.com/sites/forbestechcouncil/2019/10/08/current-technology-only-manages-to-complicate-things/?sh=4b0ae5237846

Technology is letting people do more things than we expected in many years. We’ve made technology much more complicated than it needs to be. The solution to the problem of technology complications is looking for the most features rather than looking to see how it can be much easier to use. A simple shift in our mindset goes along with it. When we start to look past all these cool features these devices can catch our eye. We need to keep in mind how something can suit us. Simplicity is what many people try to find on these devices, how you can make us grow, and how it can help communicate with others. That needs to find a way to get rid of these complexities can help us find our lives much better.

I believe that technology over time has improved our lives and made it much easier. Technology is another good resource we use daily. If we were to compare the way we live today and how life was a few years back we will notice how much technology has transformed our lives. It has given us a lot of freedom and helps us save time. It is not possible to give one particular type of technology credit for all this change. How much the economy of a nation has grown can be measured by the level of technology that they have achieved to make. This is all to the fact that various factors affect how an individual lives. The more technology continues to advance will only benefit us.

This was a good choice of genre because it is telling us the transformation of technology over time, how rapidly it’s changing and convenient for our lives without us even realizing it. We’re sometimes selfish of all this technology that we have that makes us want more of it when years back people would have to go find books at a library to get their question answered or at least some information on it.

Technology is changing not only our relationship with nature but people in general as technology continues to advance we become much more distant from our environment. There are many inside gaming or sport-related things that kids back in the day didn’t know of or simply never existed. They would grab a ball or even rocks and play outside. Nowadays it’s much easier to pull out our phone and search for activities we can do that are indoors. Technology is making our lives much scarier creating these VR nature stimulations making us think we’re outdoors but in reality, it’s all an illusion. How effective can that be to our minds when now anything can be a stimulation.

https://qz.com/1048433/technology-is-changing-our-relationship-with-nature-as-we-know-it/ During this pandemic it was very hard for many of us. Many lost jobs and family members. Due to COVID many of us were stuck home for over a year with nothing to do. It was a very difficult moment being that not many of us were fortunate to have a backyard and exercise. Technology became a huge role during this period including me, I played sports boxing and played soccer. I honestly didn’t have much time in my hands being that I had a busy schedule school than training. When COVID hit hard it was unexpected I had to stop going to the gym and the field it was a scary moment seeing everyone with mask and gloves this is where technology became a huge problem in my life I started to play much more video games than the usual being on social media than what I normally would be honest I even had to get glasses. As soon as things started to open I was excited but it was some sort of weird excitement that I had. I don’t know how to describe it to this day. I don’t go out much unless it’s to the grocery store or work. Sports were thrown out of the picture. I gained a lot of weight and gaming became something I like. Technology is much more powerful than we think it can take over our very damaging mind. Giving us that illusion of being somewhere or doing something can make us do stupid things. For example, in school shootings, it’s proven that many play shooting games who don’t want to own an M-16 or a rifle but carry it around and shoot innocent people? What sense does that make?

This helps us realize that possibly in 10 or 20 years we will live in a virtual world if technology continues to advance and is used in the wrong way. Could we stop it? No, but we can control it.

This helps us realize that possibly in 10 or 20 years we will live in a virtual world if technology continues to advance and is used in the wrong way. Could we stop it? No, but we can control it.

As we speak on Technology improving every single day these products and machines are not made on their own there are humans manufacturing these things. Without human brains, many of these things would not exist although we see that companies don’t need human labor these machines are working for them and replacing them.

I truly believe that a machine can substitute human labor when it can produce more than the worker for the same cost or as much as the worker for a fraction of the price. likely to occur when a worker’s tasks are routines when the instructions for the tasks can be translated into code for a computer to carry out. automation is more able to replace workers in simplified, controlled environments. While computers can perform the most complex calculations in milliseconds, it is much more difficult to get a machine to write novels or care for children as effectively as humans do. How will humans survive if they are jobless? Unless you’re an inventor then you can contribute in some way to make these machines. Fast food places have screens where you can order instead of speaking to a worker, many supermarkets have self-checkout. We can see that technology is slowly taking over our lives and jobs. We could work for machines may be decades from now if we don’t experience that maybe our kids will.

The author chose this genre and decided to inform us about this because it keeps the world aware that machines are taking over. We can find ways to not let us affect us.

Technology has taken away our freedom. This generation has become very dependent on calculators and GPS systems to make our lives simpler. As technology advances we must go at its pace if not we will stay behind Technology is becoming the downfall of our society because people are no longer able to practice two of the most important things in life math and being able to read a map. Technology has made our society very ignorant to the point that there might be a day when our technology does not work and we cannot live without it. We have grown to rely on our technology to make our lives easier. Our lives will continue to be tough until everyone learned to live without it.

Rough Draft-Bibliography

I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember, and for as long as I can remember I received many compliments on my drawings with the key words “gifted” and “talented.”These compliments really only came from family members and because my family are always supportive and positive, not to mention artists themselves, I’d take those compliments with a grain of salt. I didn’t doubt the truthfulness behind those statements, nor did I not value them, I just seemed like more of a confidence boost than anything else. Despite my family being artists, they never really intervened with my art. They didn’t try to push or force anything onto me or try to teach me anything if I didn’t ask. My interest in art was purely my own. Therefore, the developments that I would make solely came from my mindset and how I thought to put things together. Recently, I continued to draw after a personal 3 year hiatus. As I’m rebuilding my foundation, I notice how many essential ideas began to came back to me. This triggered me to wonder more about fundamentals which turned into me wondering about the meaning of mentality and the meaning of mindset. I also began to think about those words “gifted” and “talent” and the connections between them.

By definition, mentality is the characteristic attitude of mind or way of thinking of a person or group, and mindset is the established set of attitudes held by someone. Essentially, the characteristics of a mentality make up a mindset. The definition of being talented is to have a natural aptitude or skill for something, while the definition of being gifted is to have an exceptional talent or natural ability: essentially an elevated version of talent. I believe that the definitions of gifted and talented are not entirely true. I believe that being gifted identifies more with the mentality of an individual while being talented focuses more on the individual’s mindset and application. I believe being gifted is the foundation of being talented. In an article titled “What Is The Difference Between Gifted And Talented?” By Ray Fitzgerald, it states “While a test that identifies a gifted child looks more at broad cognitive skills, testing for an academically talented child focuses on the nitty gritty these students are ones who score in the top percentiles of all students on individual subject-area tests for math, science, reading or any other topic.” This quote is stating that tests for children identified as gifted, focuses more on their mental action and process of understanding information while testing for talented children focuses more on the applying their smarts to different subjects.

One example would be in Kobe Bryant’s “The Mamba Mentality: How I Play.” Kobe Bryant was a professional NBA player that spent his entire 20 year career on the Los Angeles Lakers. Besides the successful career he had, one aspect about him that he will always be remembered for was his “Mamba Mentality” (Black Mamba was his nickname). In an excerpt of his book, it states “When it came to basketball, I had no fear. What I mean by that is: if I wanted to implement something new into my game, I’d see it and try incorporating it immediately. I wasn’t scared of missing, looking bad, or being embarrassed. That’s because I always kept the end result, the long game, in my mind…” Bryant breaks down and describes 4 different characteristics of his mentality. First, he was never in fear; never in fear of how bad or embarrassed he looked. Second, he had the urge to constantly learn and apply new material. Third, he stay focused and kept his goal in sight. Fourth, his high work ethic. These gifted characteristics, among others unmentioned, helped establish his mindset which made him the generational talent he was. Kobe had the mentality of being the best version he could possibly be in anything he attempted.

In addition to my definitions of mentality, mindset, gifted and talented, there is also the idea that anyone with any type of mindset and still achieve anything they desire. However when an individual has a certain mentality, they are able to perform or achieve certain things faster and/or at a greater level than others. Of course that means that there are short comings as well. For example, let’s say there are 2 people: person A who has is gifted with math expertise; and person B who is gifted with language arts expertise. They are both gifted in their own right, but what if they both are striving to become authors? Both can do so but person A will have to work harder to achieve this feat because their characteristics don’t compliment the goal they’re after as well as person B.

There are common misconceptions of the idea of “gifted” and “talented.”  In an article titled “Is There a Mindset Misconception with Giftedness?” By Emily Mofield, it states “The buzz about mindsets, what we believe about our intelligence, has captivated parents and educators in recent years. Its message is powerful if you believe your intelligence can grow, you will embrace challenges and achieve more… this mighty notion of mindset can be misinterpreted. In discussions about giftedness and mindsets, there may also be misconceptions. Research about praise tells us that when we praise students for their intelligence, they are likely to develop fixed mindset beliefs—the belief that your abilities do not change and so, they are more likely to avoid challenges in order to maintain a smart identity…” This quote identifies 2 different types of mindsets, 1 being a growth mindset and 2 being a fixed mindset. A growth mindset is a mindset that regardless of any limitations, one’s intelligence can still grow and achieve more; it’s a mindset that everyone potentially has. A fixed mindset is where one believes that one can’t grow beyond the gifts they have. However, as stated before, they’re only misconceptions.

After realizing my personal definition of mentality, mindset, gifts, and talents; I’ve also realized that people are way more capable than they know. Anything is achievable with the right amount of work and effort. Anyone can truly surpass their own limitations.

Rough Draft – Bibliography

Ever since I’ve been in the U.S, I noticed how quickly I’ve gained weight. It made me wonder why and how I dramatically gained weight when I eat nearly the same food I ate in my country. Of course I thought it may be because we’re surrounded by junk food and snacks, there are many more fast food restaurants available here, and there are more processed foods available than my country has. However, it must be more than that. Food in other countries, such as mine, have more fresh ingredients and organic meat. We rely heavily on vegetables because it’s affordable and easy to grow on your own. We don’t have any chemical or processed food on a regular basis. I have noticed how many Americans are obese. So, why is obesity so high in America? It’s understandable it’s a different case for everyone. The reasons can vary from hormonal levels, metabolic activity, and even genetic. However, what is causing the high rate of obesity in America and how can it be decreased?

Obesity is a medical problem that involves excess amount of fat in an individual’s body. Obesity has become a problem since the 1900s and it continues to increase in the United States. Obesity can lead to many health problems, such as, diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, cancer, and more. According to the article “The Nation’s Childhood Obesity Epidemic: Health Disparities in the Making,” by Suzanne Bennet  Johnson, only 13% of the U.S adults and 5-7% of the children were obese in the 1960s and 1970s. Today, 73.6% of adults ages 20 and over are overweight with obesity. Children ages 2-5 have a rate of 13.4% with obesity. Children ages 6-11 have a rate of 20.3% with obesity. Adolescents aged 12-19 have a rate of 21.2% with obesity. The percent of obesity keeps increasing due to the decrease in physical activity. Back in the 1900s, people would walk or bike to school for 1-2 miles. They were much more active. Nowadays, we have easy access to transportation, such as cars, trains, and cabs, and we only travel by foot for a few minutes. An average American spends 55% of the waking hours just sitting down and watching TV (“Obesity in America: What’s Driving The Epidemic”, 2012). In addition to sitting for the majority of the waking hours, the eating portion is quite large and calorie intake tends to be high. The percentage of obesity will continue to increase in America if we don’t start having smaller portions, getting more active, and intaking less calories.

If you travel around different countries, you will notice how many brands of food or snack products taste different than the products America has. For example, I had a chocolate, Kit Kat, when I was in the U.K, and I instantly noticed it tasted different than the Kit Kat we have here. The American made chocolate bar contains more sugar (Entenman, 2018). The British chocolate bar is higher in fat and cocoa (Entenman, 2018). Food processing companies will change the formula for a food product in Europe to meet UK’s rules. One of their rules is that a product must contain no less than 25% cocoa solids to be considered “milk chocolate.” However, milk chocolate must contain no less than 10% chocolate liquor in the U.S (Entenman, 2018).

Many food additives that cause cancer have been prohibited or restricted by the European Union. Many of these foods are still used in American-made bread, cookies, soft drinks, and other processed foods. Majority of European countries have limited the cultivation and import of genetically modified foods as well (Rabin, 2018). One food additive that has been banned in Europe, but hasn’t been banned in the U.S is called potassium bromate and azodicarbonamide, which is used for mainly baked goods to make dough rise higher and brightens the dough. Europe banned this because they may cause cancer. Another food additive is called brominated vegetable oil, which is used in citrus flavored drinks. It’s banned in Europe due to the risk of potential lead to memory loss and skin and nerve problems (Rabin, 2018). Lastly, food dyes can affect children’s activity and attention. Due to this risk, Europe requires sellers to carry a warning label. Unfortunately, these warning labels are not required in the U.S. It seems like in the U.S, food that can be harmful to our body is not taken seriously enough as the European Union does. The food dyes are used in a number of things from candies and sweets to something as simple as condiments, such as ketchup and mustard. These are just a few examples of what is not banned in America. There are plenty more that isn’t good for our health that take into factor obesity. However, they aren’t banned. America does not take action like Europe does to keep us healthy.

Obesity could be prevented in the U.S if certain food were banned. Due to less physical activity, and large portion of food, we already make it easy on ourselves to become obese. With some restriction on food that can potentially cause us to get cancer and/or become obese, obesity may decrease in the U.S. Many people go on strict diets, and some still fail to lose weight. This may be due to ingredients we don’t even know of that are banned in other countries, and not in the U.S. Food that should be banned is one of the reasons why obesity has not decreased in the U.S for many years. In modern times, we have easy access to travel, which means less physical activity. In addition, because of technology, we spend more time on our electronic devices. There needs to be a new way of decreasing obesity with modern problems. Modern problems require modern solutions. If the U.S does not enforce new laws or rules regarding our food and health, no one will ever be able to solve the obesity issue in the U.S. In my case, my diet has not changed much. After reading how much food additives are not banned in the U.S that should have been prohibited, I am starting to be convinced that it is due to the American-made products that have made me gain weight.
