In his paragraph Daniel Bunn says “You are already an author”. This statement took me by surprise as I have never thought about myself as an author and, on the contrary, I have always considered writing one of my weakest abilities. But after reading his article it made sense to me why I am already an author. In everyday routing we communicate to the other people using words, sentences, stories. Though, most of the time, we don’t document them on the sheet of paper, nevertheless, these means of communication create our unique way of expression ourselves. And, in fact, if to think about it, I have never met two people talking in the same particular manner. We are all coming from different background, from early years our ability to speak and express ourselves was shaped by different circumstances, traditions, customs, and literature we read. And as we grow older, we implement our common speech in paper, thereby creating our own unique authorship.
Daniel Bunn also gives many examples of different methods of how to enhance your writing (story-telling). A quote of a famous person or a very personal anecdote can help to increase the engagement with the reader and bring more interest to the article. I also realized that Mr. Bunn uses subtle humor ( stating that he didn’t have any intentions on dying fancy dressed) in the beginning of his article to build kind of trust with readers. I have never thought about this trick, and I would definitely like to use it in my future assignment. I have used before famous quotations as an opening of my writing. But as the author says it can be really tricky to use the right quote for the right audience. I would also sometimes start my essay with a rhetorical question or an interesting statement to cause more curiosity of the reader.
Reading Bunn’s article taught me many things I appreciate. And now reading a new assignment I really going to analyze every step and choice an author made. I hope in the future it would improve the quality of my writing.
