“Shitty first drafts”

After reading “shitty first drafts’ by Anne Lamott, my views on writing as a process hasn’t really changed much. She let readers know that no writing is perfect and no one gets it write for the first time. She also stated that sometimes people assume writers just write with confidence and write a great sentence at once when its a different case in reality. Lamott’s writing process is similar to mines because she starts her fist draft with unnecessary information. This is similar to my writing because I tend to not take first drafts serious. This the draft where I jot down things that I have in mind whether is bullet form or an essay.  Then the second draft she edits it and add things that she has to say to be more specific. Lastly, the third draft is basically where she revises any mistakes made. One of the process she uses that I would consider adding to my own is using a colored pen in order for her to take out everything thats needed for a second draft. I personally would use this process in my writing because its a good way in organizing the important details for the second draft.

How to read like a writer

When Mike Bunn says “you’re already an author” he means that everyone is a storyteller of their own life. One of the ways that we use writing in everyday life is the use of social media. For example, posting a picture or writing a status or even sharing your ideas through social media are essentially ways that make you an author of your own life. Another way in which you’re your own author is by talking to a close friend of yours. Good writing is similar to having a conversation between the reader and the writer. When you write you should be able to think about how you would speak on a certain topic with your friend. Suppose you were having a conversation with them, what would you want to discuss about first? What terms will you use? What type of questions might they ask regarding the topic? Moreover, writing in a journal is a way in being your own author. People write in their journals for many different reasons; whether is to tell a story, create a story or write poems etc. When writing a story you may want to consider how your story might grab readers attention and if your story is showing more instead of constantly telling. When it comes to writing, some things I write about are essays and I personally enjoy journalling down things that has to do with manifesting and answering questions that has to do with myself. The words that I use in everyday life will help me with my college reading and writing career because I’m able to use these words that shows who I am. I can also expand my vocabulary and knowledge. In addition, the way I write or speak is my own voice and thats how I’m able to express myself to students and professors. Something that I noticed in Bunn’s article that I would like to try doing in my own writing is that he opened up his essay with a story. I would like to try this because this a good way in grabbing a readers interest.

One word to describe how I’m feeling about this course is motivated. I feel motivated because before I even took this course I lost a lot of motivation in school work and my goals. I wasn’t in the mood to start classes for this semester primarily because of anxiety and losing myself mentally. But I told myself that despite what I go through that shouldn’t stop me from giving up on my goals and school work. My goal for this semester is to stay on track and avoid procrastination. Being an online student is a struggle because I realized that staying home for a while leads to procrastination and getting too comfortable. Last semester I was too comfortable with doing things last minute until it was time for me to make up work past its due date and I do not want to experience that again.

This picture symbolizes reaching new heights. These ‘heights’ refers to my goals and where I want to be. This also means that I’m motivated enough and ready to be successful. And to never give up!
