Week 8: 3/22-26

ATTN: We will be joined in our Zoom session on Monday afternoon by a librarian who will walk us through some of the useful resources on the library’s website. We’ll be using these extensively in our next essay assignment, which I’ll be introducing next week. *Attendance is mandatory (like any other class period)*

Due by Mon. 3/22 @ 4PM:

READ:

“Liking is for Cowards. Go for what Hurts.” by Jonathan Franzen

Unit 2 Assignment page

WRITE:

In at least 300 words, please respond to the following prompt:

In his essay, Franzen describes the difference between liking something and loving something. Do you agree with his concept of like vs. love? If you do, does your relationship with your smartphone/technology make you concerned? If you don’t agree, do you pay attention your usage of apps/tech that make your life easier?

Please file your post under the Category “Unit 2” by Monday @ 4 PM.

Peer Review Partners & Instructions

Find your name on the list of partners below. Before Monday’s class, you must read that person’s rough draft of their essay, and post a comment on their post with your feedback. You should read their essay at least twice, and write at least 300 words of feedback.

Instead of correcting their grammar or punctuation or usage errors, which we’ll all have on rough drafts, try to think with them about the essay they are trying to write, and give suggestions about how to arrive at that clear and effective final draft. Items to consider: Paragraphing (too long/short/off-topic), Organization (think of my outline model), Thesis, P-I-E argumentation, Tone/Register (appropriate/effect?), and any other comments you might have.

Partners:

Sulthan Adam & John Webber

Hossain Ahmed & Tiffany Russo

Dave Bresier & Justin Rivas

Qu’ran Richardson & Jingyu Chen

Alanna Petit-Homme & Jayla Citron

Marry Ousmane & Daniel Cortez

Jared Onofre & Fatma Coundoul

Kymmone Delgado & Jesse Narvaez

WeiFan Gao & Rashawn Lemon

Michael Lazcano & Katya Halavach

Adam Ibrahim & Alkid Lala

ATTN: Rough Drafts & Class Pushed to Wednesday 3/10

All,

After speaking with several of you and watching the rough drafts (not) come in today, I think it’s fair to give you a couple more days. I’ve edited our unit 1 timeline as follows: we will have class *Wednesday @ 4 PM*, your rough drafts are *due before then*, we will hold the *peer review session on Monday 3/15*, and your *final drafts will still be due Friday 3/19*.

I will see you all in Zoom on Wednesday afternoon.

Best,
Professor Reichert
