Questions about Trig Sub/Transcendental Equations Webwork

Hey guys, is it just me or are there a lot of questions on the trig sub webwork that require partial fraction decomposition(like problem 10 and 11)? I’m not really sure how to do those two without partial fraction decomposition being as there’s no radical in the problem.

Hi Nafew. A lot of questions (especially those with no radicals) can be approached using either method. If the integrand is a rational function and the denominator is quadratic, for example, and the numerator is linear or constant, then you might be able to factor the denominator and integrate using partial fractions. However, you could also complete the square and apply the appropriate trigonometric substitution.
