Test #1 solutions – OpenLab assignment

For your next OpenLab assignment, you will submit a post containing the full solution for one of the questions from test #1. Be sure to select the Test #1 Solutions category from the right-hand side of the screen before submitting your post. There were 4 different versions of the test. Some of the versions had questions in common. While it is okay if two people submit solutions for the same question, try to submit one that hasn’t been submitted yet so that eventually solutions for all test questions are online. Try to submit a solution for a question for which you did not receive full credit.

Everyone’s deadline is Tuesday, April 3 at 10am (during spring break). The first day to submit your post depends on your Test #1 grade.

  • If your Test #1 grade is below 60%, the first day for you to submit your post is today, Tuesday,  March 20.
  • If your Test #1 grade is between 60% and 80%, the first day for you to submit your post is Thursday,  March 22.
  • If your Test #1 grade is above 80%, the first day for you to submit your post is Tuesday,  March 27.

If you notice an error or have a question about someone else’s post, please comment on it.

This OpenLab assignment will count toward your participation grade.

Test #1 Review

Thanks to everyone who’s posted Test #1 Review questions and solutions. I haven’t taken a close look at all of them yet so you should read your classmates’ solutions carefully and post a comment if you have a question or notice an error.

I did notice that many of the questions involved solving radical equations. I’m glad to see these here, especially since they’re some of the longer solutions. I also noticed some of the other questions posted were shorter and easier than the questions you can expect to see on Thursday’s test.

Don’t forget to practice questions with longer solutions and from the other topics from sessions 1-9.

Also don’t forget that you can get help at tutoring. If you bring me a verification slip from the Atrium Learning Center, it will count toward your participation grade.

Webwork, Quiz #4, Test #1, Test #1 Review

Webwork

Upcoming deadlines:

  • MultiplyRadicals due 02/26/2018 at 11:59pm EST.
  • RadicalEquations due 03/05/2018 at 11:59pm EST.
  • ComplexNumbers due 03/07/2018 at 11:59pm EST.

Quiz #4

Thursday, March 1; will cover material/homework from sections 6.4, 6.5, and/or 6.6.

Test #1

Thursday, March 8; will cover material/homework from sessions 1-9 on the course outline. Questions will be similar to quiz questions and to those found in the textbook homework and Webwork and on the final exam review sheet.

Test #1 Review

This is an OpenLab assignment for you to complete. Choose one question from the textbook homework on the course outline to complete and post your full solution on the OpebLab. Title your post “Test #1 Review” and add the section and problem number. Add the category Test #1 Review before submitting your post. Make sure nobody has submitted your problem already; try to make sure every section that will be on Test #1 is represented. Comment on others’ posts if you have a question about their work.

The idea here is that you as a class are creating a review sheet for everyone to study from for the first test. You will be given participation credit for this post.

Due date: Tuesday, March 6 by 10am

Webwork and Quiz #3

Webwork:

  • SimplifyingRadicals due 02/19/2018
  • AddSubtractRadicals due 02/19/2018

Quiz #3 will be given in class next Thursday. It will cover material/problems from sections 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, and/or 6.4.

Don’t forget: next Tuesday follows a Monday schedule, so we won’t have class.

Tutoring and Thursday office hours

Tutoring Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm Atrium Learning Center Room AG-25

The Atrium Learning Center offers tutoring specifically for MAT 1275 students. I recommend you get in the habit of attending tutoring regularly now, even if you’re not struggling with the material yet; it can really help keep you on top of things so that you’re in better shape if and when the material becomes more challenging. Ask your tutor for a verification slip; hand it in to me for participation credit.

On Thursdays, there is no class in M305 right after our class. Yesterday a few students stuck around after class and I held my office hours there.  This seems like it’ll be a good system on Thursdays, so I’ll plan to continue holding office hours there (unofficially) if students stay after class. It might help you to stay even if you don’t have specific questions of your own, so I encourage you to do so. I’ll continue to hold Tuesday office hours from 12-1 in my office N707. If you can’t make it at these times, you can also set up an appointment with me.
