Our New York, NY office is seeking an Architecture Intern for Summer 2019.

Job Summary

Under close supervision, assists assigned departments and/or project(s) by performing basic architectural calculations and other routine architecture-related tasks which may reflect elements of standard post-secondary architectural curriculum, usually on a part-time, temporary, or co-op basis. This is an entry level training position.

Essential Responsibility

  • Performs elementary architectural assignments and works from designs of others.
  • Compiles data, performs basic computations and prepares working drawings on projects of limited scope. Assists in compiling data for architectural plans, specifications, cost estimates, reports, business development, etc.
  • Assists in conducting preliminary studies to obtain information as to space and design requirements, obtaining measurements and making sketches preliminary to the preparation of contract drawings.
  • Researches, gathers, and records information for use in writing specifications.
  • Performs basic analyses of design, planning and occupancy studies and limited design layouts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualification

High School Diploma/GED or equivalent plus 2 years enrollment in post-secondary architectural program

Preferred Qualification/Skills

– Revit skills

– Previous internship experience

General Work Conditions

Office Environment: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently, and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.

Responsibilities

For new projects, the in-house architecture and design team is the vital connection between development, construction, management, leasing, marketing and sales. They establish agendas for design meetings; work with marketing to develop marketing plans, renderings and other marketing materials; organize internal meetings related to design; receive budgets and schedules from the development team to track the progress of each project; monitor construction administration with the construction team; keep property management informed of key decision milestones including selection of interior designers, and the approval of significant design items such as facades, kitchens and baths, lobbies and corridors. These are just a few of the functions the in-house architecture and design team performs to ensure Related maintains its position as a market leader in innovative, financially rewarding and environmentally-conscious real estate development and operations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist Head of Design and Head of Construction in day-to-day operations for above projects;
  • Attend meetings, prepare action plans related to project management;
  • Develop various deliverables on short-term and summer-long time frame coordinating information from both in-house and outside consultants/architects/engineers;

This is an entry level position requiring no prior professional office experience and is a unique and exciting opportunity for an effective candidate to experience the multiple facets of an architect’s office.

STUDIO ASSISTANT responsibilities generally include assisting Architects and staff of 10, managing the image, material and drawing libraries, maintaining the DGA website and other media, material and product research, assembling presentations, and drafting. AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, and Microsoft Office skills are necessary. You will also have office responsibilities such as assisting the principal, general studio organization, document reproduction, phones, messengers, ordering supplies etc.

Reporting to the Lead Creative the Associate Draftsman will work with the Lead Draftsman as the conduit between Design and Fabrication by producing effective mechanical drawings for in-shop fabrication. The Associate Draftsman will also produce files for the operation of the CNC machine.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assist Lead Creative & Lead Draftsman throughout all potential and awarded projects
  • Attending project kickoff and fabrication meetings with senior staff members and Business Development team
  • Produce effective mechanicals decks for in-shop fabrication
  • Deliver shop drawings, and all other specific materials within pre-established timelines
  • Support Fabrication Manager, Project Manager, and Department Leads in the fabrication process throughout the build timeline
  • Produce files for the operation of the CNC machine
  • Assist in the creation of ground plans and install guidelines as needed
  • Create 2D documents for internal use and client presentations, including mood boards, conceptual renderings and mechanical drawings
  • Work within build list, and production schedule as defined by the client and Pink Sparrow leadership
  • Support overall departmental objectives as set by the Lead Creative & Lead Draftsman
  • Support overall business goals, as set by the company

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Attend weekly departmental meetings
  • Assist in any print production needs as outlined within the scope of an awarded project
  • Assist in maintaining organization of shared files according to departmental guidelines
  • Source materials and finishes as defined by the scope of an awarded project
  • Assist in creating and updating standardized templates for internal and external use

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge of SketchUp, Rhino 3D, AutoCad, and Adobe Creative Suite

  • Experience creating vectored drawings consistent w/ CNC machine operation
