A few things I liked about Coates work. First of all, the details describing what seemed to be something innocent turned to someone drowning was a bit surprising. Also since this is only a single chapter there are some stuff that as a reader we are missing, making it some what confusing. A question that probably would be answered if more chapters were read is “Why put this chapter here?” I seems more fitting to put it some where in the middle of the work but it did get me to want to read more of it.

Office Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM. I’ll be available through Zoom and will send an invitation via email that you should keep all semester. Try to join my meeting at the start of the hour, not at the end—since I may be talking to other students or have another appointment after the hour is up. If those times don’t work with your schedule, we can schedule a different time. This means you’ll have to schedule an appointment in advance. I suggest you have multiple times in mind, since your schedule may not mesh with mine!

That question is accurate to my experience as well; the first chapter seems intriguing, but only after I read the blurb that gave me background information that this first chapter should’ve had. I wonder what made them decide to write it like this.
I agree because I believe the flow of the story would be a little smoother if the chapters were restructured differently.

I can agree on how well everything was described. But although it took an extra reading of the chapter a lot of the info I missed my first time was certainly there the second.
I do agree with the author putting this part of the story somewhere else or maybe it was to make the readers have some type of suspension. But the drowning part was surprising.
