I’ve had a good experience with poetry writing because I feel it’s pretty easy. Unlike an essay, a poem can be short and straight to the point. It can also have many interpretations because of the use of metaphors. I personally feel that shorter sentences and phrases have more meaning so with poems I feel like they can be deeper compared to an essay. When I write poems I like to write about what I’m feeling. One of my first experiences with poem writing was in the third grade when I wrote a poem about my grandma. This was one of my first pieces of writing and it meant a lot to me because of how close I was with my grandma. As I’ve gotten older I’ve written poems about other family members and I like being able to show it to them because it’s a great way of expressing my love for the people in my life. I think poems may resonate more with people because since they are shorter a person is able to remember the context more.

Office Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM. I’ll be available through Zoom and will send an invitation via email that you should keep all semester. Try to join my meeting at the start of the hour, not at the end—since I may be talking to other students or have another appointment after the hour is up. If those times don’t work with your schedule, we can schedule a different time. This means you’ll have to schedule an appointment in advance. I suggest you have multiple times in mind, since your schedule may not mesh with mine!
