This was a very interesting piece. Gruba’s work is very expressive to say the least. A few things I enjoyed about her piece are how direct she was and how she didn’t hold back on speaking her mind whether it was English or whether it was in Spanish. You can tell how passionate she was due to all the derogatory terms or stereotypes that were said about Mexicans and she showed her frustration in her work. Overall I really enjoyed her critique because it gave a different view on critiques and allowed me to think deeper when writing one. One question I do have for Gruba is “did you receive any backlash for writing this critique?”.

Office Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM. I’ll be available through Zoom and will send an invitation via email that you should keep all semester. Try to join my meeting at the start of the hour, not at the end—since I may be talking to other students or have another appointment after the hour is up. If those times don’t work with your schedule, we can schedule a different time. This means you’ll have to schedule an appointment in advance. I suggest you have multiple times in mind, since your schedule may not mesh with mine!

I think expressive is the perfect word to describe Gruba. You can almost feel the energy in her voice just by reading the review. However, this also might put some people off.
I do agree about her story giving us a different perspective of the world. Not everyone has equal lives so hearing her side of her life can give us a new meaning on how people treat others in society.
That’s a great question to think about, I wonder if she did receive any backlash when she wrote the story. She was passionate and really wrote out her thoughts without a doubt, some people may take it the wrong way.
