Jordan Bailey, Gurba Critique

With the language the author used in this piece it was clear that she was upset with the publication of American Dirt. American Dirt is a Novel that talks about the hardships Mexican immigrant.

Gurba didn’t agree with most part of the novel especially because Cummins didn’t know what he was talking about which came from the fact that Cummins is identified as a white person. The author was indeed angry with the fact that this person’s writing is taken seriously despite him being in no position to show the true life of a Mexican immigrant. Gurba spoke out on how she was truly disgusted with this and that is what I liked the most about this piece of writing.

Angry sounds like an understatement; Gurba was furious about the book’s existence along with the author. The entire review was basically a takedown piece on this singular book. However, I think “disgusted” is accurate.

I agree that Gurba was disgusted with Cummins novel because it’s based on stereotypes.
