What I enjoyed most about Patchett’s work is how she went into depth about her relationship with Lucy. We know that as a child Lucy struggled with a childhood illness but was also one of the smartest in her class. Furthermore, we know that at first Lucy would never acknowledge Ann but later on there is a sudden change. Therefore, my first question is apart from Lucy meeting the guy that dropped her off, was what the sudden change in how she felt about Ann. Finally, my last question is… on page 5, why is there an indirect change from Ann talking about Lucy in the past to now fast forward graduation from college? Is there any way the transition could have been smoother to let us known as the reader there will be a transition?

Office Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM. I’ll be available through Zoom and will send an invitation via email that you should keep all semester. Try to join my meeting at the start of the hour, not at the end—since I may be talking to other students or have another appointment after the hour is up. If those times don’t work with your schedule, we can schedule a different time. This means you’ll have to schedule an appointment in advance. I suggest you have multiple times in mind, since your schedule may not mesh with mine!
