A constant disagreement that I have had with someone would be the whole Black Lives Matter movement. As someone who is of mixed race (Black & White Caribbean), the movement is something that applies to me and sheds a light on the racism and racial based systems that are upheld to bring down black people, family members that I have on the white Caribbean side of my family have been very ignorant to the whole movement and feel as if it is selfish for black people to make a whole movement dedicated to themselves. As you can clearly tell by what I just wrote, there is a lot of ignorance in the opinions that these people on the white side of my family have and they donāt try to learn past it because they can only perceive the world through their whiteness and are not in the position to see how it is to maneuver through the world as someone of another race that is not set as the standard, I have tried numerous times to educate them to understand my experiences as someone who is black, ethnically and racially, and what it is like to live in America, but I am always told that I am ā too youngā to teach them something and it has become very obvious that they will stay opposed to the movement because subconsciously they know that their privilege is being called out and they want to be in denial that they have any type of racial privilege.
