A Growing Disagreement

Never did Suzan thought that her childhood friend Judy would have considered their homeland as just functionally literate. Judy and Suzan established a friendship when Judy’s mother Dian moved to Florida leaving Judy with her dad and grandmother. Suzan and Judy were teenagers attended the same high school, but Judy was an argumentative creature by nature. The girls would argue about the most handsome boy in class, the shorter way home, the best church songs and about anything.

Judy later moved to join her mom and shortly afterwards their argument had added new topics. This time they went back and forth about fashion, education, and what occupation they wish to hold when they grow up. Although their friendship was prevailing, Judy was now comparing her hometown with her new settlement. she constantly referred to Suzan level of intelligence at every opportunity. Judy blatantly complained that Suzan’s English was sub-standard to the extent that when Suzan texted Judy and use words like, centre, flavour, behaviour, labour, colour [ British spelling] Judy would text back with words corrections [American spelling]. Suzan always says that Judy seems to forget that she was first British. That infuriated Suzan but, Suzan was not prepared to jeopardize their friendship over misconceptions. In Judy’s opinion, Florida is so developed that even Floridian dialect is better than Suzan’s English. Suzan tolerated Judy’s indiscretion for years, while she equipped herself with relevant information to debunk Judy’s allegations.

During one of their conversations, the subject of literacy came up and Suzan was ready for battle in that regard. Suzan clearly stated that their native level of education is immense but have limited opportunities to excel. She then backs her claim with evidence, telling Judy that Although their natives Faced with these challenges, their country has produced two Nobel laureates. Sir Arthur Lewis for Economics and Sir Derek Walcott for Literature. She could not respond so Suzan proceeded to state that Dr. Winston Parris, a native of my homeland was the Director of Clinical Research at Anesthesia Pain Care Consultant in Fort Lauderdale. Also, George Odlum who was one of the world’s best orators represented oxford university in a debate, plus he delivered a speech at a United Nation Assembly for one hour without a script. All those people attended Universities here at homeland. In a subsequent conversation, Judy acknowledged that based on her research, she discovered that she was wrong, and have expresses the desire to visit her homeland soon. Since then, Judy has never mentioned literacy in any of her conversations with Suzan again. The ladies conversation became more dynamic, and they are excited to reunite after not seeing each other for 25 years.
