Formal Critique

Reviewerā€™s Name:  Leviza Murtazayeva

Title of Piece: My Bronca with Fake-assĀ Social Justice Literature

Authorā€™s Name: Myriam Gurba

Voice & Style

I love how the text was written with deep emotional and feelings, you can tell that the author thoughtfully and deeply disagrees with the book and the initial idea of the book “American Dirt” and what it is written about. The voice is free-spoken and the author of this review had barely any filter upon how she begins to explain her thoughts, you can tell by only reading the title.

Point of View

I enjoyed that the point of view of the reviewer’s writing was upon the whole country that she is trying to reconvince the author she is reviewing. In other words, she is thoughtful and somewhat really patriotic to her country and hates with passion the following discriminations and social inequality that United States may have proposed to them.

Dialogue

The reviewer, Myriam had a direct dialogue with every wrong thought about her own race and other races, and it was directed tot he author of the written book. She would be quoting and jotting down the comments on the margins and sometimes would comment out loud with anger. This made it interesting to read since there was a great sense of how the reviewer really felt about the following statements. The dialogue would be both in Spanish and English which made it interesting to read.

Plot

I enjoyed reading from the end to the beginning which, especially through out the story there would be moments that came in as a lesson for the reader, the reader now can be informed about what is evolving around him or her, some things that they may have never noticed, occurred.

Question:

Why would there be such an anger towards someone’s opinion?

Is that some some of protest?

What else can you be able to do to please your freedom desires? or Have you tried to reach anyone else to alter the discrimination situations?

I agree with what you said in the Voice & Style because while I was reading what Gurba was saying in her critique I could feel the passion that she use to put into words to express how she feel.

I agree with the fact that having the dialogue in the story be in both english and spanish did make it more interesting. Her piece let us into her mind and gave us her purest thoughts which is something I also enjoyed a lot
