The question that I chose to focus on for my annotated bibliography is the effects that immigration detention centers have on immigrants. I got interested in this question after I saw many people from my own neighborhood get detained by ICE. The rage that was inside of me resulted in educating myself in that topic. I wanted to know the purpose of it, it’s history and just everything that had to do with immigration detention centers. I’m interested because I want to be educated in case of anything. I wanted to know how bad immigration detention centers are, wanted to create my own opinion on it based on the information I got. The answers I expect to find in response to my question is that detention centers do nothing but harm immigrants. Although, their whole mindset is to return them to their own country cause they migrated to a country illegally that does not mean that they have to be tortured. The information I expect to find in response to my question is that detention centers are inhumane and cruel places to be. Not only do they keep people hostage but they also neglect them from basic human rights. No access to a good place to sleep, nutritionist food, medical care etc. It is evident that along the years ICE has gotten away with harming people just because they are immigrants and that is nonetheless very unfair. In hindsight, I have found many articles that fit my hypothesis but if I was to find one article that did not fit my hypothesis I would probably look for many more articles that do. I know there will be many more articles that fit my hypothesis because it has to do with the neglection of basic human rights. Basic human rights that everyone has access to regardless of the label they have been placed with.
