Writing using this genre helped tremendously more than the traditional essay because I found myself enjoying it more. I could hear my voice this time around and that made my writing feel important/real. When writing a traditional essay there are few times where your voice and opinion is clear but in this case my voice was the main focus. Douglass’s speech helped me model my work in a way where I used personal examples from my life as well as historical evidence to support my stance. If I had an extra 24 hours to write my speech I think I would delve deeper into the historical aspects of women’s rights which would maybe add evidence to strengthen my claim.

Office Hours: 1 to 2 PM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I’ll be available through Zoom and will send an invitation through email each week. Try to join my meeting at the start of the hour, not at the end—since I may be talking to other students or have another appointment after the hour is up. If the above times don’t work for you, we can schedule a different time. This means you’ll have to schedule an appointment in advance via email.
