The Declaration of Independence was written by the american 13th colonies in 1776 towards the british empire  asserting their right to choose their own government on july 4th that is why we celebrate it. To summarize it the first paragraph consists of them explaining how their rights have been violated and abused, they feel like it’s time to stand up for themselves and make their own government because in their eyes when the government starts to become destructive and  corrupt towards its people it’s time to abolish it, break free and find their own Liberty, happiness and safety. Moving on to the   second paragraph they explain in detail about how the King of Great Britain has failed to rule over the 13 colonies and They list all the wrongdoings and examples of abuse of power that he has done and explain thats the main reason for the letter and actions they are taking.This document was not a warning, or a plead to a solution this letter was a statement telling them what they were doing which was breaking free from the rule of britain and being on their own whether they agreed or not. Reading Randy Barnett’s article on rephrasing quotes from the declaration towards more modern relations caught my eye because it’s crazy how the declaration which was written by americans now serves as a declaration towards the american government also since they have been acting corrupt and destructive lately in these times and these were the quotes which i feel relate more towards this time in 2020 is “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”  i choose this quote because of the greta injustices still going on in america towards many groups of people from black, hispanic, muslim, jewish and the lgbtq commuity so even in 2020 not all men/women are created equal with life liberty and pursuit of happines but the white rich elite men truthfully.
