- What are your thoughts on writing in the genre you chose? Did you find it easier to express your thoughts via this genre vs. traditional academic writing (such as an essay). Why or why not? Also, reflect on how the model (either the speeches by Douglass and/or A.O.C. or letter by Wollstonecraft) helped you create your piece.
What are your thoughts on writing in the genre that you chose?
The genre that I chose is speech. In my opinion, when I give a speech, I have many possibilities to convince my audience because I can use the body language to catch my attentionās audience, such as I can use my hands, my face, my eyes to convince when I present my speech.
It is easier for me to express my taught via a speech than a letter; in a speech, I can see quickly how the audience reacts and if they are satisfied or not, I can easily notice that. The model, the speech by Douglass, helped me by creating the introduction of my speech. The way how Douglass began his speech, the way how he stood on the stage, and the way he explained the situation, all these examples helped me create my piece.
- Find a section of the Unit 1 assignment that you struggled to write. Quote it and explain what you were struggling with and steps you took to overcome the difficulty you were facing.
The assignment that gave me problems is the week 2 in the section āIf You Are What You Eat, Then What am I?ā in this section I could not find words to express my thought due to a cultural problem because parentsā Geeta Kothari are from India, I did not know anything about India kitchen. So, this section, in the beginning, struggled me to write.
- Imagine you had 24 additional hours to work on the speech or letter, what would you do to further develop it? Why?
I would do to develop my speech during 24 additional hours: I have to know my audience, for instance, their level of education, what they like or dislike, and know their culture. Also, I have to know how many minutes or hours my speech will last; afterward, I start to develop my speech. All those things are steps or verification because the audience has to be satisfied and understand my speech.
