1. What are your thoughts on writing in the genre you chose? Did you find it easier to express your thoughts via this genre vs. traditional academic writing (such as an essay). Why or why not? Also, reflect on how the model (either the speeches by Douglass and/or A.O.C. or letter by Wollstonecraft) helped you create your piece.

The genre I picked is really controversial, so you can argue about it too much, it’s always a large genre to write about. In fact, I preferred the genre I chose because I was able to explore a topic that has been going on for centuries. I didn’t mind either the speech in all honesty helped me learn how a speech is formatted and also how it is also identical in a way to a persuasive essay. The speech by Fredrick Douglass helped a lot, particularly how a cryptic introduction to the subject he was talking about captured the audience’s attention. The situation he brought up also notes challenges and strategies and what he wanted to determine.

2. Find a section of the Unit 1 assignment that you struggled to write. Quote it and explain what you were struggling with and steps you took to overcome the difficulty you were facing.

The second task, micro activity # 2, is more of what I was dealing with. It was a reading of introductions to DC communities that you sent us. At first, I didn’t even know what the DC culture was. In one of her lectures, my friend was doing the same subject and she was able to explain what a discourse community was ,which led me to learn a lot more and do the assignment. I also did some research on the topic which described examples of DC communities so I was able to relate to it.

3. Imagine you had 24 additional hours to work on the speech or letter, what would you do to further develop it? Why?

If I were able to have an extra 24 hours, I may have really gone more thoroughly into the DC I wanted on the part of the problems and how it always continues till this day. In order to have a perspective of how my speech went, or maybe if it convinced him to join the DC community and help make a difference, I would have a family member or friend to read the speech.
